Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr Kristy Jarrett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr Kristy , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
Starting my own practice was one of the most challenging and rewarding decisions of my career. In the early days, I had a clear vision but limited resources, and I quickly learned that building a business requires more than talent — it requires discipline, consistency, and personal growth.
One of my biggest lessons was learning to slow down and focus on becoming an expert in my craft. Instead of trying to be everything to everyone, I chose to evolve into being intentional with purpose. I invested in education, strengthened my skills, and focused on serving people at a deeper level, which allowed my work to grow with authenticity and excellence.
There were moments of uncertainty, financial pressure, and the challenge of learning how to be both the provider and the leader of the business. But those seasons taught me resilience and helped me build something that truly reflects who I am.and the impact I want to make
If I could give advice to someone starting their own practice, it would be this: stay committed to your growth, trust the process, and allow your purpose to lead you. I’ve learned that nothing is more fulfilling than walking fully in the purpose you were created to do.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I never fully understood what I was being prepared for until this work chose me. Early in my journey, I learned that healthy hair is deeply connected to lifestyle, and that missing piece is often what contributes to so much of the hair loss we see today. That realization shaped my purpose — helping women and girls recover their power and fall in love with their hair again.
I was born into this industry as a second-generation Hair Doctor, and from the beginning I learned that true hair care is about discipline, education, and intention. Women would travel miles to sit in my chair, not because there weren’t other stylists available, but because of the level of care and attention I gave to their hair and overall wellness. My discipline has been learning to say no to things I may enjoy so I can fully commit to what I was created to do and continue becoming an expert in my craft.
I launched the HeadSpa at a time when there wasn’t anything like it in Memphis. It was challenging because not only was I building my client base, I was also introducing something many people had never heard of before. It was truly a “go big or go home” moment — stepping out in faith and believing in the vision before it became familiar. The HeadSpa experience allows women to pause, reset, and have their hair and scalp treated with intention before returning to their regular styling routines. It bridges the gap between beauty and wellness by focusing on scalp health first.
Today, I offer Hair Recovery services and work with clients nationwide through education, restorative treatments, corrective styling, natural hair correction, K-Tips and extension transformations, and personalized guidance designed to support healthy hair growth. What truly sets me apart is my exclusive one-on-one HeadSpa Hair Restoration experience. I believe every Queen deserves luxury — a moment to pause, be cared for, and restore her crown.
I also believe in giving freely through education, which is why I regularly share complimentary hair and scalp wellness guidance on my Instagram and Facebook platforms, along with free resources and virtual consultations to help women begin their restoration journey. Through my nonprofit, HYPE TN Crown Wellness Initiative, we provide education and wellness-focused programs that teach women and girls how to understand and combat hair loss through intentional care and lifestyle awareness.
What started as a passion for healthy hair has grown into a movement centered around crown wellness — helping women and girls understand that restoring their hair is also about restoring confidence, identity, and self-worth.
One of the things I am most proud of is moving in faith, starting over in a new place without a client base, and watching God open doors and surround me with love and support. For me, this isn’t just a business — it’s ministry. I love seeing healed heads and healed hearts, and helping women reclaim their crown with confidence.
“This isn’t just hair care for me — it’s restoration. I help women heal their crown so they can rediscover their confidence, their identity, and their power.”

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than training and knowledge, I believe what helps someone succeed most in this field is intention, consistency, and genuine care for people. Skill will open the door, but character, discipline, and the ability to truly listen are what build lasting trust and long-term success.
In my experience, success comes from understanding that we are not just providing a service — we are caring for people who are often vulnerable and looking for confidence, healing, and reassurance. The professionals who succeed are the ones who lead with empathy, stay committed to growth, and remain teachable no matter how much experience they have.
I also believe mindset plays a major role. You have to be willing to evolve, to stay patient during slow seasons, and to keep showing up with excellence even when results aren’t immediate. Purpose-driven work requires endurance, but when your heart is aligned with what you do, success becomes more than numbers — it becomes impact.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The skill that has helped me build my reputation is perfecting my craft while genuinely valuing the person in front of me. I believe excellence comes from being fully present — not chasing what’s happening somewhere else, but giving your absolute best to the client you have right now.
I always say, if you water the grass in front of you, it will become just as green — or even greener — than the grass across the street. That mindset has shaped how I work. I focus on mastery, consistency, and care, making sure every woman who sits in my chair feels seen, heard, and valued.
When you combine skill with appreciation and intention, people remember how you made them feel. That’s what creates lasting trust, strong word of mouth, and a reputation that speaks for itself.
