We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Donna Taliercio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Donna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.

People are tired of overly posed images. They are looking for more natural, authentic pictures of their family They wan imagery that will capture their true personalities. I know that in mychildhood, my happiest memories were not necessarily posing for a camera. It was probably making pasta sauce on a Sunday morning. Or playing catch with dad in the backyard. Or dressing up and playing pretend with your sister and brother. Learning to ride a bike or running around the beach. T

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

It is those unique “slice of life” moments that e we try to capture at Seventh Wave Photo + Films. I’m a portrait and documentary photographer for laid back, sentimental families looking more than just pretty pictures. If you are looking for something to just post on social media, that’s not me. I help freeze moments in time and create albums and art that you will cherish forever.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

I’ve always been interested in photo and video but first “real” camera was a gift from my husband – an ancient DSLR that he bought on ebay.. I invested my personal money in education to improve my skills and that sparked an interest in becoming a professional. I did so much work for free in the first few years. before I upgraded to a better camera and good lenses. Then in 2020the pandemic hit and I did a lot of second shooting weddings (masked of course.) I really. gained a lot of practical knowledge from that experience but I knew family photography was where my heart was. It was really after I built my portfolio and skill set that I started actually charging for my photos, paying back my initial investments.
