We recently connected with Dominique Doyle and have shared our conversation below.
Dominique, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I actually started doing makeup in college — for photoshoots, probates and homecoming events. I never thought of it as a business. It was just something I was naturally good at and genuinely enjoyed. Word spread on campus, but in my mind, it was still just a hobby.
I finished undergrad, went on to grad school, and built an eight-year career in public health, specializing in reproductive and sexual health. On paper, everything made sense. I had the degrees, the stability, the “respectable” career. But makeup never left me — I continued taking clients on the side purely out of passion.
Then the government shutdown happened, and I was laid off.
What felt like a setback was actually the pivot that changed everything. Instead of scrambling to find another public health position, I decided to bet on myself and go full-time into makeup artistry.
Almost immediately, I landed an opportunity working on the reality TV show Married to Medicine. That single opportunity shifted the trajectory of my entire career. From there, I worked on shows like R&B Divas, Love & Hip Hop, and live daytime television including Sister Circle and ATL & Company.
It’s rare to begin in reality television — most artists build for years before entering that space — but starting there completely set up my career. It gave me immediate credibility, visibility, and a portfolio on major networks. What began as something I casually did in college became the very thing that positioned me in rooms I once only watched on TV.
I’m so Incredibly Grateful. The layoff wasn’t the loss — it was the launch.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello Beautiful People,
I’m Dominique Doyle, a full-time professional makeup artist based in Atlanta, specializing in natural glam. My journey into beauty wasn’t traditional. I actually spent eight years working in public health, focusing on reproductive and sexual health. I hold a master’s degree in health administration and an undergraduate degree in marketing — paths I chose because they were practical and stable. But deep down, I’ve always been an artist. As a child, I was creative — I even illustrated my middle school yearbook, which is still one of my proudest early accomplishments.
Makeup truly found me in college. What started as doing my own face and helping friends turned into building a clientele organically. Over time, I realized beauty wasn’t just about aesthetics for me — it was about transformation, confidence, and identity. Eventually, I made the leap of faith and transitioned into makeup artistry full-time. I’ve now been in the industry for over a decade.
I specialize in natural glam — enhancing, not masking. My work has been featured on major networks like Bravo, VH1, and BET, and I’ve worked in film, reality television, and live events. I also provide one-on-one makeup courses and host beauty experiences and workshops that help women feel empowered through education.
The main problem I solve for my clients is confidence. So many women struggle with feeling like they need to “cover” themselves. My approach is about refinement and enhancement — helping you look like you, just elevated. I also teach women how to recreate looks on their own, because I believe beauty education is power.
What sets me apart is my background. Coming from public health, I take a holistic approach to beauty. It’s not just about the face — it’s about wellness, self-image, and self-care. With roots in Trinidad and Tobago, I have a deep appreciation for cultural beauty, identity, and representation. That heritage shapes how I see beauty and intentionally influences both my artistry and the way I’ve built my brand.
What I’m most proud of is betting on myself. Walking away from a stable career to pursue something creative takes faith. I’m also proud of the community I’ve built — women who trust me with their most important moments, from weddings to television appearances to everyday milestones.
I want potential clients and supporters to know that my brand is rooted in intention. When you sit in my chair, you’re not just getting makeup — you’re getting an experience. My goal is always the same: to make you feel seen, elevated, and unforgettable.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I truly believe my reputation in this market has been built on consistency, professionalism, and authenticity. From the very beginning, I’ve taken customer service seriously. Whether it’s a bride, a production client, or someone booking their first glam session, I treat every experience with care, respect, and attention to detail. People remember how you make them feel not just how you make them look.
Being professional has also been a huge part of my growth. Showing up on time, being prepared, maintaining clear communication, and honoring my craft has allowed clients to trust me. In industries like beauty, film, and live events, reliability matters just as much as talent.
At the same time, I’m very personable. I’m warm, approachable, and I create a safe space in my chair. My clients feel comfortable being themselves, and that energy naturally builds loyalty and referrals.
Most importantly, I’ve stayed true to myself and my niche. I specialize in natural glam enhancing, not masking and I’ve never tried to chase every trend just to fit in. I leaned into what I’m naturally good at and what feels aligned with me. By being authentic and consistent in that lane, I’ve attracted the right audience clients who appreciate subtle luxury, refinement, and elevated beauty.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
One of the most effective strategies for growing my clientele and building true brand loyalty has been intentional visibility and meaningful experiences. Social media has played a major role ,consistently showing my work, my personality, and the energy behind my brand. I don’t just post finished looks; I share behind-the-scenes moments, education, and the transformation process. That visibility builds trust long before someone ever sits in my chair.
Creating curated experiences has also been a game-changer. I don’t just offer appointments ,I create moments. Events like Blush with Bae, Galentine Glam, and my Mother’s Day Glam Workshops are designed to feel elevated, intimate, and intentional. They’re not just about makeup; they’re about connection, confidence, and celebration. When women feel cared for and part of something special, it naturally builds loyalty and community.
Collaboration has been equally powerful. Working with hairstylists, photographers, stylists, and even fellow makeup artists has expanded my reach and strengthened my brand. Aligning with other creatives who share the same level of professionalism and vision elevates the overall experience for clients and opens doors to new opportunities.
For me, growth has come from being visible, creating experiences people remember, and building genuine relationships that extend beyond a single appointment.
