We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DJ Q MAC. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DJ Q MAC below.
DJ Q MAC, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
To show my clients that I appreciate them, I often engaged with them via social media and do giveaways from money to merchandise. I have done trivia, polls, & raffles with my clients. These kinds of interactions encourages my clients & social followers to participate and engage with me and shows that I appreciate their participation.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is DJ Q MAC. I am a female dj located in Mississippi. I got into the dj-ing business in 2020, during the pandemic. I knew I wanted to get into the field in 2018 and I even had some of the things I needed to start; however, I didn’t have much time to dedicate to it. 2020 gave me the time I needed to not only dj again, but to become serious about my craft. In 2021, I got my first unpaid gig for a high school prom and later that year, I took my first paying gig for a party. As I began spending more time developing my skills, I knew I wanted to start up a business. March of 2022, I started my own dj-ing business under DJ Q MAC PRODUCTIONS & ENT. LLC. Since starting my business, I’ve continued to develop my skills and branch out. I am now a member of Flava1 Radio, an internet radio station where there are listeners from all over the world. I have my own show each Sunday, called “Saucy Sunday”. I am so thankful and grateful for the opportunity to become a part of something greater outside of my own brand.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
While I love dj-ing, it has not yet turned into my full-time career. Sometimes I want it to be a full time thing, and other times, I do not simply due to the unsteady income & the constant going. I don’t want to work so much that I not making time for myself or my family and I take self care very seriously. You can get burnt out from doing too much of something even if it’s something you love.
How did you build your audience on social media?
When I first started building my audience on social media, I followed friends and found other dj’s to follow by looking up hashtags. Hashtags are very helpful when starting out. I increased my presence by posting daily and posting videos of me working or practicing. My advice to those who are just starting, would be to be visible, engage and interact with followers, and promote yourself every chance you get. I’ve included my social media on my website via www.djqmac.com, and I promote it throughout my weekly show, as well as promoting it on my social media platform as well as business cards and word of mouth.
