We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DJ Chizzle a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, DJ thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
It’s been a blessing to pursue my passion and transform a hobby into a career. Music, which I’ve always had a love for, has become my means of making an income and living. My creative work has built financial stability in my life while having creative freedom with my time. I’m truly grateful every day to wake up, do what I love, and have a meaningful impact on society, culture, and others lives.

DJ, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started DJing at UCF. Just in my dorm room practicing as a hobby. This turned into me doing the college clubs, pool parties, and events around campus. Being at the largest school in the country, the networking and opportunities were endless. It led me to grow into bigger clubs, events, and venues. Upon graduating, I moved to Miami, where the opportunities continued to grow. I met the right people and ended up in the most notable venues including LIV, E11EVEN, Daer & Hyde. This all led me to expand across the country and play at the top nightclubs across the country including NYC, Boston, Texas, California, to name a few, and become the Official Tour DJ for Austin Mahone. We just came back from Japan where we had shows in Tokyo and Osaka.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, I would definitely say the impact I can have on others. Any DJ set or art that I create, will have a lasting impact on others. Music is timeless. Music and dancing removes people from any stress or anxiety that they have, and helps people live in the moment. Putting a smile on others’ faces and bringing them joy is my purpose.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’ve failed and been told no 100 times. The key is to not give up. I’ve lost residences, and lost tons of money along the way. I’ve had loved ones and closest ones to me turn their back on me. People that you think would always be there for you become strangers. But you just have to push through the difficulties, keep inspiring others, and stay focused on the main goal of why you started in the first place. I’m blessed to wake up everyday following my purpose, and create meaningful art.
