Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dewy Ventura. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Dewy, thanks for joining us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
I have always been interested in shooting music videos even back when i was attending A.I.U. in Buckhead for Media Production, back in the early 2000’s. In 2003 i caught a case and was incarcerated for a decade, I was released in 2013. A few years later once i got back on my feet, I began to reach out to a lot of local music directors. (probably all of them lol). GT Films was the first person to give me an opportunity. I sent him a DM asking him to please let me work and learn from him and he responded immediately with yes then he send me an address to a shoot he had that same week and told me to pull up. That was over 5 yrs ago and him and his Company GT Films Productions continue to contract me and provide work for me from time to time. That opportunity opened so many other doors with creatives in Atlanta. I now have worked with many music and film directors thanks to the kindness of one person. Thank you GT FILMS!

Dewy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Dewy Ventura aka DUI. I am an Artist, Actor, Director, and Producer in Atlanta, Ga. I was born in Puerto Rico to Dominican parents and raised in Atlanta. I co-produce a series titled CholoMMA where me and two others teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques with a Comedic twist, I direct and shoot music videos and run multiple businesses here in Georgia. I am currently working on my first Album. Having a prison background and being from the streets has given me the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to consult on sets and to better write treatments for my clients. I give my customers real stories that come across as authentic and real. I can be found online by searching DUIWORLD. I have acted in many Artists music videos including, KeyGLock, Blac Youngsta, 42 Dugg, and many others, as well as being featured in Feature films such as Jumanji 3, The Mule, and Bad Boys 3.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes, the Local Library. As silly as it sounds i only used the library while in school. But did you know that most libraries have workshops and librarians that are there to assist and help with any topics or questions you may have. Not only do most libraries have equipment such as cameras, green screens, computers and editing software, but they are full of free resources. If you are a creative and don’t have much a budget yet I suggest hitting up your local library you’ll be surprised at what you can find there.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being an artist gives me a sense of freedom and expression. As a creative one may not generate a lot of income at first or even recognition but the key in life is to be consistent and to never give up on your goals and aspirations. I am so Thankful to God and my family for their support. I am also glad i put aside my fear of failure and kept at it working diligently on my craft and perfecting my skills as a Film/Video Director and Producer. it is truly rewarding to create something that will forever be out there in the universe for generations to feel, see, and hear even after I am gone.
