We were lucky to catch up with Dewon Moton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dewon, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I really love meaningful projects, especially to lower income areas to be able to create murals that give off information that concerns, mental health and mental stability that people can receive for free by looking at the artwork and learning new things because therapy is expensive and if it was more accessible, people could probably regulate better, and have better outcomes in life

Dewon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been an artist, all my life starting through high school. I was already starting to learn tattooing and shirt design, which I used to get through most of my college years and high school, and as I progressed, it led to tattooing for 15 years solid, which built sustainable clients and definitely helped a lot with my Stability with my hand and coming up with images on the fly And then Covid hit and everybody was pretty restricted to the homes so I had to redirect my energy and find a way to work further away from people so I started painting murals, and then I realize the impact it made on the world because of the people that it brought to it Which I dearly right now is my favorite thing about what I do is I create images that people from all over see whoever passes it, so I have that one moment to create a feeling or emotion or draw someone in it made me see art is more of a science visual science, then just artwork, and then it made me start to progress on my composition what I want things to look like how to send her things up foreground middleground background, and just making the images look stable and appealing to the eye there are ups and downs. It’s all up to me I’m on boss I make the moves so I have to be consistent and I have to be on top of my game and always ready for the next move but I would prefer it this way because it’s up to me about how much money I make not anyone else and that’s a blessing.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My children drive my mission for sure to leave something for them that stands the test of times that outlives me to paint a mural. Sometimes they stay up for 50 to 100 years depending on when and where and I won’t be here long but the pictures that I’ve put up everywhere will be here way longer than I will and that’s amazing to leave something that the world can have from me

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding is it at consciously get to use my brain every day to create a new image so it keeps ideas fresh, and I always pushing the limits to my imagination
