We recently connected with Devin Akers and have shared our conversation below.
Devin, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Starting Stello Church in 2018 with just 15 passionate people in the North Raleigh area was a leap of faith. We launched with a deep conviction that a Spirit-filled church was exactly what our community needed, and despite facing early challenges, including navigating the impact of COVID, we’ve experienced incredible growth year after year. What makes this journey so powerful is seeing God’s undeniable provision—miracles have unfolded before our eyes, and the unwavering dedication of our members has fueled our momentum. It’s been nothing short of extraordinary!

Devin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Stello Church was born out of a deep desire to build a Spirit-filled community in North Raleigh where lives could be transformed by the presence of God. Our vision statement is: EMBRACE THE DIFFERENCE OF GOD’S WORD TO BE THE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR WORLD. Condensed: Embrace The Difference. Be The Difference. We wanted to create a place where people could encounter God in a real, powerful way—a church that wasn’t just about attending on Sunday, but about living out faith daily, building authentic relationships, and making a tangible difference in the world around us.
At Stello Church, we focus on offering Spirit-led worship, Bible-centered teaching, and a genuine sense of community. A motivating mantra for us is: “it’s all about Jesus and it’s all about others”.
Our services are designed to be engaging, empowering, and life-giving, helping people from all walks of life experience the hope, healing, and freedom that come through a relationship with Jesus. We offer various ministries—ranging from youth and kids’ programs to small groups and outreach efforts—all aimed at connecting people to God and each other.
With our others centered focus on being a church that’s “all about Jesus and all about others.” we strive to embrace diversity and be a church that welcomes everyone, no matter where they are in their faith journey. We’ve seen incredible miracles, lives changed, and deep spiritual growth in our members because we believe that when people truly encounter the love of God, everything can change.
What I’m most proud of is seeing how God has provided for us through the dedication of our members, especially through the challenges of the pandemic. We’ve not only survived but thrived, growing year after year, and expanding our reach in the community. We want people to know that at Stello, they will find a church that cares, supports, and invests in their personal and spiritual growth. We’re not just building a church—we’re building a family, and there’s a place for everyone at the table.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most powerful stories that illustrates what Stello Church is all about happened just a few months after we launched. A family who had been facing unimaginable challenges—job loss, illness, and strained relationships—started attending our services. They were skeptical, worn out, and unsure of what they believed anymore. But they kept coming, week after week, drawn by the sense of genuine community and the presence of God that they felt in every service.
Over time, they got connected in one of our small groups, where they built strong friendships with other members of the church. They were encouraged, prayed for, and supported in ways they never expected. One Sunday, during worship, they had a profound encounter with God that completely changed their lives. They experienced healing, restoration in their relationships, and even found new job opportunities. Today, they are not only thriving but are some of the most active members in our church, serving in multiple ministries and mentoring others who are walking through difficult seasons.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
At the heart of our mission is the desire to be a church that is “all about Jesus and all about others.” We are passionate about leading people into a deeper relationship with God, We know that if we embrace the difference God makes, we can be the difference in our world.
