Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Devante Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Devante, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

Lonnie, Co-founder of Humble Beast Lifestyle, came up with the name. A Humble Beast is one who exudes confidence but is never boastful. Subtle, yet powerful. Always looking to uplift the next, a Humble Beast promotes a healthy, positive lifestyle. We added the lifestyle aspect to it because we strive to live our lives in this manner day in and day out.

Devante, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I was born and raised in the small town of Cairo, Georgia. Upon graduating high school, I went on to attend Sewanee: The University of the South where I earned my B.S. in Computer Science (2016). After my undergraduate journey, I decided to pursue a MBA degree in General Business at the Campbell School of Business located at Berry College. During my time there, I served as a graduate assistant coach for football and an assistant for the entrepreneurship program. After graduating, I worked as an IT Analyst for Chick-fil-A Inc. for two years. Currently, I’m working as a Database Administrator for Colonial Consulting Group.

Initially, Lonnie designed a workout shirt that included a bear and the words “Humble Beast” as a reminder of who he was compared to where he was in life at that point. He asked if anyone would be interested and getting a shirt, and I was definitely on board with it. One day while working out in the gym, I had a few people asking about the shirt. At that point, I figured this would be the best time to put my degree to use and establish a brand that would be focused on living a healthy lifestyle, lifting the community and everyone around us, and staying humble. So in 2019, Lonnie and I decided to establish Humble Beast Lifestyle.

Currently, we provide activewear and streetwear apparel for the general population. This lifestyle is two-fold, so we will be adding more products and services tailored to business professionals as well.

The proudest moment we had was being able to partner with the Vidalia High School basketball team in providing their team with travel tracksuits. In turn, we were able to work with the JRT Middle School basketball team, located in Vidalia, with workout hoodies and pre-game polo shirts.

The main thing we focus on and want our followers and potential followers to know is that you can be a humble beast regardless of whatever situation you are in. Our community thrives on being able to be at the top TOGETHER!

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

Lonnie Scott and I have been best friends for nearly 10 years now. We met in undergrad at Sewanee: The University of the South, as we both were members of the football team. We shared a passion for working out and getting better each day. God was really working because I met Lonnie at my lowest point in life. After tearing my ACL during a football game, I began feeling depressed because the one thing that brought me joy was no longer there. So one day in the training room, he walked up to me and just spoke some encouraging words, and at that point he was a man of many words. Afterwards, I was getting ready to head to town to get groceries and asked if he needed anything. Lonnie replied, “A jar of peanut butter.”

This rest was history. His parents are my parents and my parents are his parents. That’s one person I know I can count on to be there for me at any point.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

Definitely our rebranding strategy. Thanks to Fleecher Designs, we were able to have a more sleek and modern logo design, learn about our brand archetype, and have structure so we don’t stray away from who we are. They also provided us with redesigned homepage for our website which was a big hit. There’s not enough great things I could say about them.
