We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Destiny Auckerman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Destiny, appreciate you joining us today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
I Believe that it is so important to ask your friends and family to support your buisness. Starting a buisness is hard and has a lot of ups and downs but having the people you care about by your side is so important. During one of my first big weddings my friend Lauren offered to be my assistant. This included holding my checklist, making sure everyone was where they were supposed to be and overall supporting my work. I am forever grateful for the support, love and help that I know I have in my life.

Destiny, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi!! My name is Destiny Auckerman and I am a 21 year old wedding photographer. I graduated Photography school about a year and a half ago and got a degree in commercial photography. I have known I loved photography my whole life and never expected it to become a career that I love and cherish so much. I grew up in the wedding industry with my mom who owns a salon and bridal boutique and have always wanted to work by her side. Now we get to enjoy weddings together and I have my best friend by my side. Building a buisness is so hard but extremely rewarding although I am still growing it I have enjoyed every step of the way. I love being a wedding photographer because I love seeing my clients smile and I love capturing one of their most special days of there life. I work with my clients to make sure we are on the same page as far as what’s expected and as well as what they are looking for out of their photographs. Not only am I there to be their photographer but I am also there to make sure their wedding day goes as smooth as possible with the help of the wedding planner. Wedding photography is my passion but I also have so many others. I love working out, hiking and overall being outdoors, I am always down to go on an adventure with my clients to get the most amazing engagement, elopement or proposal photographs.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I believe that the most effective strategy for growing my buisness is keeping up with the posting on social media and keeping my website up to date.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I think the most affective strategy for growing my clientele would be sending my yearly pan flit to a mailing list as well as giving my clients a little discount at their next photoshoot for recommending me.
