We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Desmond Anthony a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Desmond, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My accomplishment is also the tale of my mission. Join me as I take you on a journey into the life of one of the self-made millionaires who genuinely started from nothing but managed to overcome all the typical challenges faced by a young black man growing up in the inner city of Houston, Texas.

Desmond, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am proud to claim that I am the successful proprietor of two businesses. In the US Army, I started personal training in 2008. After I retired, in 2015, I built my own personal training facility called Time On Target Fitness and Boxing. My love for instructing people came from my experience instructing soldiers in the world’s best ARMY. I enjoy challenges, and I saw improving others as the ultimate challenge, so I accepted it. I’m a maniac for achievement and progress. Results are what I focus on, and providing you with what you want is my only objective and goal. It doesn’t matter to me whether it’s to gain weight, lose weight, get a bigger booty, or get bigger muscles since I’ve trained myself to produce all of these results. My mission is to find solutions, and just like the military, I like completing every mission.
I made the decision to get into fashion in 2019. Because I adore hip hop and urban culture, I made the decision to establish the clothing line N3ver Basic Clothing. I perceived myself and those in my network as being very distinct from the average person who lives on earth. I observe that others don’t do the things we were doing. I wanted to connect with others who are similar and call it N3ver Basic since I know there are more people like us than I had the pleasure of meeting. N3ver Basic Clothing immediately acquired popularity, and after just spending $5K on beginning costs, the company generated $25,000 in revenue in my first year. N3ver Basic Apparel has done more recently than the typical clothing business. We have organized a number of concerts and showcases in Houston, Texas for local artists, giving them a chance to develop and get noticed by influential people in the hip-hop scene. We may confidently assert that we are in a league of our own.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Without my business partner and CEO Angela Ravelo, also known as “Cuban Diva,” N3ver Basic Clothing would not be what it is today. With her, we attracted the attention of the latino community as well as the streets of urban neighborhoods in all major cities. Nobody can sustain a business with just one person. I couldn’t do it either, but for a year and a half, I did. But the day I met Cuban Diva, everything was different, and we entered a world we could only imagine. Now that she is the CEO, I am confident that she will continue to lead us to locations that no other brand can access. She talks and lives in N3ver Basic Clothing, and that’s the how both our family and our team live. There are many people like us out there whose lives are not simple, common, routine, or restless.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
To anyone who is joining the corporate world, let me shout this out. Today, purchasing social media ads is a dead game and a waste of money. Let me clarify. When Facebook and Instagram were still in their infancy, this was a fantastic way to promote your brand. However, the market is oversaturated nowadays, and from my observation, no one interacts with commercials. Sincerely, I have lost over $10,000 trying to use advertising to generate sales. The most effective strategy for gaining cash and loyal customers is in-person marketing. There are pop-ups everywhere. Instead of purchasing followers, try your product on the market. Give out something for the data. Free t-shirt with subscription, data gathering is the key element in your revenue table. Your first objective should be acquiring devoted customers. I’ve always been a lover of teamwork, so establish links with other businesses rather than making it a competition. My ideas include assisting others in making it difficult for you to lose. However, I’ll never place my trust in social media. Likes and followers may not always translate into cash or ongoing income. In my opinion, social media only keeps the globe informed of what is fresh. That is it.
