We were lucky to catch up with Deidra Bailey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Deidra, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe it takes dedication and the drive for wanting something to be successful. Success is all about the mentality that you possess and the people surrounding you to uplift you and encourage you. It took me a year to feel confident in my business and the craft that I create. I had to try different styles and open new doors for me. That leap of faith is what helped me to become successful in what I do.

Deidra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started my business at 14 years old in December 2024. I saw other braiders on my social media and was inspired by their creativity and the beautiful work they produce. I started off making my social media and practicing on friends and family. I focused on growing my social media and producing videos that gave me exposure. Through using my own creativity and enticing my personality into my business I was able to grow my platform.
I service stitch braids, knotless braids, loc styles , Fulani braids , natural styles and quick weaves.
The main thing that sets me apart is that, I do hair as a form of self expression and a way to show people my personality and creativity. I don’t do it for the money but for the drive of knowing that I am able to influence other young beginner braiders into a new part of their life.
What I am most proud of is seeing my ability to reach others all around the world. I’m proud to say that I have helped and influenced others to dive deep into their own creativity and give them a jump start of what it means to start a business. The main thing I want others to know about my business is that it was produced from scratch. Hard work produces great results and learn to take that risk because you never know that path God has in store for your life.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was having envy against other braiders who spoke badly on me. I had to understand to focus on the road ahead of me and not the curved path that other negative people were trying to drag me down to.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The way I grew my social media was by looking at other braiders and viewing their content. I watched to see what kind of videos and content people are most attracted to and made it in my way to show me as a person.
