We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dee below.
Hi Dee, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
In 2003, I began working in the beauty industry as Manager of three Merle Norman Cosmetic Studios. While there, I specialized in both bridal and special occasion makeup. I really enjoyed being able to bring the bride’s wedding makeup vision to life. In 2011, I was specially trained in professional airbrush makeup application. I enjoyed my work and wanted to continue my passion for makeup artistry when I moved from Augusta, Georgia to Nassau County, FL. In 2021, with over 15 years experience, I opened Decorated Seahorse Artistry to provide on-location professional airbrush makeup for brides getting married on Amelia Island to St. Augustine and beyond.

Dee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Dee, the the owner of Decorated Seahorse Artistry. I have worked in the beauty industry, specifically doing bridal makeup, since 2003. I love creating a flawless makeup look to enhance each individual client’s beautiful features.
At Decorated Seahorse Artistry we use professional airbrush makeup. The airbrush foundation is custom mixed to achieve the best match possible. Airbrush foundation doesn’t settle into fine lines or pores and can easily hide imperfections, tan lines and tattoos. Your complexion will look flawless! It’s perfect for any skin type and any age, whether you are a high school senior or grandmother of the bride. Every product used in my professional makeup artist kit is personally tested for color payoff, durability, and to ensure that flashback is not created by the camera.
I always travel with more makeup brushes than I need for the wedding party. Each and every one of us has our own unique features. For example, the same blush brush or eyeshadow brush is not going to produce the same exact results on everyone.
I want all of my brides to feel like they are able to relax and enjoy the moment! I’m here to assist them with that! Having your own personal glam squad come in and help everyone get ready really takes the pressure off of the bride. It’s always my goal to help everyone have fun and make beautiful memories.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding things about my job is witnessing the positive reactions when someone sees their makeup in the mirror for the first time, getting tagged in selfies on social media, or having a client or their family excitedly share their photos; simply brings joy. I feel that I have a very rewarding job. I am not just there to provide my artistry services. I usually get to know my clients before their event, not just so that I can create the makeup look that they desire, but to also be a source of calm and positive energy for them on their special day.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I feel that there are so many more resources that are easily available to artists today, versus when I started in 2003. Now, I can stay current on the beauty industry news, read unbiased product reviews, and follow top professional makeup artists’ blogs from all around the world.
