We were lucky to catch up with Debbi James recently and have shared our conversation below.
Debbi, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Iv been in to music/dancing and performing my whole life Ever since I can remember myself I always love singing and performing for my mother and every time I’ll see a stage I will jump on it and start performing my own show that create in my head
Debbi, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Debbi is a Singer, Songwriter, Performer & Dancer with roots from France, Israel and Africa. Debbi is the daughter of American actor, stunt performer and martial artist Steve James, who reached a global audience with his cult classics ‘The Delta Force’, ‘American Ninja’, ‘Enter the Game of Death’ and the Wayon’s Brother’s – ‘I’m Gonna Git You Sucka’. At the ripe age of five Debbi got a taste of the entertainment world as a burgeoning ballroom dancer, belly dancer and a regular on the local competitive circuit as a triple threat; singer, dancer and actor.
Then the unthinkable happened – Debbi lost her father to pancreatic cancer and her mother soon after committed suicide.
Most young people who were dealt these types of cards would fold their hand; Debbi did just the opposite – she harnessed her pain and willed it into her life’s purpose.
Debbi packed her bags and headed to Los Angeles from Israel to fulfill her personal dreams and most importantly extend the vast reach of her father’s legacy.
Since leaving Israel Debbi has been busy honing her craft by working with top- tier music producers, vocal coaches and dance choreographers in Los Angeles, Miami, NYC
From there, she went back to Israel on a purpose driven trip that landed her in the final rounds of X-Factor Israel and secured her touring gigs with legendary Israeli artists
Debbi has also been featured in multiple commercials that have aired in Israel, South Africa and throughout Europe.
Following her trip to Israel, Debbi went on tour with Jennifer Lopez (It’s My Party Tour 2019) where Debbi opened for hundreds of thousands of fans.
Following that, she was hired and got on tour with Latin superstar Enrique Iglesias and is been touring with him all over the world since 2019 and is currently on The Trilogy Tour with Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin, Pitbull
Debbi worked with different celebrities singers like Anastasia, Usher as back up singer and dancer
Debbi is also worked working on her own music and sound and is planning on dropping new music Summer 2024
Debbi work with which is Enrique Iglesias and we just got of The Trilogy tour with Pitbull and Ricky Martin it was a 5 months US Canada tour
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes there is a particularly one reason I’m doing this music thing one main goal and mission for me is to be able to keep my fathers legacy alive and to one day honor him with a start on Hollywood starts of fame My father is the late actor Steve James
(American Ninja, Delta Force, I’m Gonna Get You Sucker, etc.)
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
First of all let me start with how thankful I am to god for allowing me to do what I love and passionate about every day and for providing me with all the tools so I can make a living of doing what I love which is music As you already know this is a very tough industry
Artist so have a lot more access now a days and independent artists have great tools to be able to promote their own music and make money of if
But it’s still a daily and non stop hustle
So to be able to make music for living is very rewarding to me to know that my passion and creativity is all I have to do is happiness
Music is love language it’s a universal language and I feel like I’m spreading love and happiness on people throughout music through my performances and it’s just such a rewarding feeling specially with all the evil going on in our world right now
To be able to make people smile scream from happiness dance and forget about the problems they have outside of this stadium is such a rewarding feeling to me
That moment I connect with someone from the crowd and they see you seeing them it brings such a joy on their faces then the sound of the crowd going crazy at the end of every show is always the cherry on top for me
