We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christiana Carroll-Becerra. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christiana below.
Christiana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I’ve had the opportunity to engage in a diverse array of projects, spanning from rescuing animals to conducting interviews with fascinating individuals. One particular experience stands out: the Everglades Guardians series. This initiative involved collaborating with Veterans and first responders, exploring how their involvement in hunting pythons and working within the Everglades ecosystem helped alleviate symptoms of PTSD, leading to reduced medication dependency and an overall improvement in their quality of life.
Through this project, I not only witnessed the transformative power of nature on these individuals but also became acquainted with another passionate group dedicated to preserving the Everglades. From water management to combatting invasive species, these individuals work tirelessly to safeguard this unique and irreplaceable ecosystem. The Everglades not only serve as a healing sanctuary for Veterans and first responders but also inspire a deep sense of stewardship among those who recognize its unparalleled value as a global treasure.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Entering the industry wasn’t part of my college plan; in fact, I didn’t even know it existed. It wasn’t until one of my instructors noticed my natural aptitude and recommended me for an internship that I started exploring this field. My journey into the world of commercials began with a project for Zoo Miami, back when it was known as Metro Zoo, called “Metro Zoo Has Wings”. Watching how time, creativity, and logistics blended seamlessly in the production process left me spellbound. It was then that I realized this was where I belonged. I began as an intern, always eager to ask questions and learn, until I gained the skills I have today. As a television producer, I’m responsible for overseeing various aspects of television production, from conceptualization to execution. My roles and responsibilities may vary depending on the project and team size, but generally, I perform the following tasks:
Conceptualization and Development: I often brainstorm ideas for TV shows and collaborate with writers and creators to develop new concepts. I pitch these ideas to networks or studios to secure funding and support.
Budgeting and Scheduling: I manage the financial aspects of production, including budgeting for expenses like crew salaries and equipment rental. I also create production schedules to ensure timely completion within budget constraints.
Hiring and Supervising Crew: I assemble a team of professionals, including directors, writers, actors, and crew members. I oversee the hiring process and provide direction and support to ensure everyone works toward the same goals.
Creative Decision-Making: I collaborate with creative team members to make decisions about casting, script revisions, and set design. I offer guidance and feedback to ensure the final product meets the network or studio’s vision and standards.
Logistics and Operations: I handle logistical aspects like securing filming locations, obtaining permits, and coordinating transportation and accommodations for the cast and crew.
Post-Production Oversight: After filming, I oversee the editing process, working closely with editors to shape the final cut of the program. I may also be involved in decisions about music, sound design, and visual effects.
Marketing and Promotion: I work with marketing teams to create promotional materials and develop strategies to attract viewers to the show. I participate in interviews and promotional events to generate interest and excitement.
Overall, as a television producer, I play a crucial role in bringing television programs to life, ensuring the final product aligns with the network or studio’s vision and objectives.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As a television producer, my life revolved around lights, cameras, and action. I thrived in the fast-paced world of entertainment, where each project brought new challenges and opportunities. However, everything changed when I welcomed my first child into the world. Suddenly, my priorities shifted. The demanding schedule of television production clashed with the demands of parenthood. It was a pivotal moment, and I made the decision to temporarily step away from my career to focus on raising my children.
For years, my days were filled with diapers, playdates, and bedtime stories. I immersed myself in the joys and challenges of motherhood, cherishing every moment with my little ones. It was a rewarding experience, watching them grow and develop, but deep down, I missed the excitement of the television industry.
As my children grew older and more independent, I felt a longing to return to the world of television production. It wasn’t an easy decision. I worried about balancing my career aspirations with my responsibilities as a parent. Could I still pursue my passion while being there for my children?
With determination and support from my family, I took the leap and re-entered the business. It wasn’t easy at first. The industry had evolved during my time away, and I had to reacquaint myself with the latest trends and technologies. Yet, with perseverance and hard work, I found my footing once again.
Returning to television production felt like coming home. The thrill of brainstorming new ideas, collaborating with creative minds, and seeing a project come to life filled me with a sense of purpose. I juggled my professional commitments with school plays, soccer games, and parent-teacher meetings, finding a balance that worked for my family.
Looking back, I realized that my time away from the industry had taught me valuable lessons. I had honed my multitasking skills, developed a deeper appreciation for time management, and learned to prioritize what truly mattered in life. Parenthood had transformed me, not just as a mother, but as a professional.
Today, as I continue to pursue my passion for television production, I do so with a newfound perspective. I cherish every moment spent with my children, knowing that they are my greatest inspiration and motivation. And as I navigate the ever-changing landscape of the entertainment industry, I am grateful for the journey that led me here. Without that experience I don’t this I would be as good of a Executive Producer for ” A Tiny Audience” that currently shows on HBO.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, resilience emerged as the guiding force behind the production of Season 2 of “A Tiny Audience,” airing on HBO. As the world grappled with unprecedented uncertainties, we embarked on a journey to bring joy and entertainment to our audience, while prioritizing their safety above all else. Producing a live audience show during a pandemic was no small feat. It required meticulous planning, unwavering dedication, and a commitment to stringent safety protocols. From the outset, our goal was clear: to create an environment where creativity could flourish, without compromising the health and well-being of our team and audience.
We left no stone unturned in our efforts to ensure a safe production. Testing became a routine part of our process, with everyone involved undergoing rigorous screenings to minimize the risk of transmission. We implemented strict hygiene measures, provided personal protective equipment, and adhered to social distancing guidelines at every stage of the production.
One of our most significant endeavors was the creation of a production bubble, encompassing our entire team and live audience. For seven days, we operated within this controlled environment, minimizing outside contact and maximizing safety. It was a testament to the dedication and resilience of everyone involved, as we came together to bring our vision to life in the face of adversity.
Throughout the production, our resilience was put to the test. We encountered challenges and setbacks, but we refused to be deterred. With creativity and adaptability, we found innovative solutions to overcome every obstacle that came our way. And in the end, our efforts paid off.
Season 2 of “A Tiny Audience” was a testament to the power of resilience. Despite the odds, we produced a complete series in front of a live audience, featuring talented music artists and a full crew, without a single case of COVID-19. It was a triumph of perseverance, a celebration of creativity, and a reminder that even in the darkest of times, the human spirit prevails.
As we reflect on this journey, we are reminded of the strength that lies within each of us. In the face of adversity, we found resilience. And together, we proved that with determination and unity, we can overcome any challenge that comes our way.
