Alright, David thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Music has always been a big part of my life, but the moment I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally was when I started DJing and saw firsthand how music could bring people together. What began as a passion for discovering and mixing different genres—Latin music, hip-hop, house, and more—quickly turned into something bigger. I remember playing at events and watching complete strangers connect through the music, dance, and energy I created. That feeling was powerful and unlike anything I had experienced before. As I continued developing my skills, performing at more events, and building my brand as DJ David Ray, I realized this wasn’t just a hobby—it was my calling. Today, that same passion drives me not only as a DJ but also as a music producer and artist, creating original music and experiences that leave a lasting impact on people.
David, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Growing up in New York, music was always a huge part of my life. Whether it was Latin music playing at family gatherings, hip-hop on the radio, or discovering new sounds from different cultures, I was constantly surrounded by music. What started as a passion eventually turned into something bigger when I realized I could use music to create experiences and bring people together. That’s when I decided to seriously pursue a career as a DJ, producer, and artist. Today, I perform under the name DJ David Ray. I’ve spent the last several years building my brand, performing at clubs, restaurants, private events, schools, and community celebrations throughout New York City. My goal has never been just to play songs—it’s to create unforgettable moments. Whether I’m DJing a Latin dance party, a family-friendly school event, or a high-energy nightlife experience, I focus on reading the crowd, understanding the audience, and delivering the right energy at the right time.
What sets me apart is my versatility. I come from a multicultural musical background and I’m comfortable blending Latin music, hip-hop, R&B, house, Afro house, reggaeton, dembow, and many other genres into one seamless experience. Every event is different, and I take pride in being able to adapt while still maintaining my own signature style. I don’t believe in simply pressing play—I believe in creating a journey that keeps people engaged from beginning to end.
In addition to DJing, I’m also expanding into music production and releasing original music. Creating my own records has allowed me to express myself on a deeper level and share my creativity beyond live performances. As an artist, I’m focused on developing music that connects with people emotionally while also making them want to move. One of my biggest goals is to build a catalog of original music that reflects my influences while establishing my own unique sound.
The problem I solve for clients is simple: I help create memorable experiences. Whether it’s a birthday celebration, corporate event, restaurant residency, school dance, or nightclub, clients want their guests to have a great time and remember the event long after it’s over. I take that responsibility seriously. I spend time preparing, understanding the audience, and ensuring every event receives the attention it deserves.
What I’m most proud of is the progress I’ve made through consistency and determination. Like many creatives, I started with limited resources and had to learn through experience, trial and error, and countless hours of practice. Every event, every mix, and every production has helped me grow. Seeing people dance, sing along, and genuinely enjoy themselves because of something I’ve created is one of the most rewarding feelings imaginable.
For potential clients, fans, and supporters, I want them to know that authenticity is at the center of everything I do. I’m constantly working to improve my craft, provide value, and create experiences that people remember. Whether I’m performing live, producing music, or building my brand, my mission remains the same: to bring people together through music and create moments that leave a lasting impact.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is creating moments that bring people together. I’ve always believed that music is more than just sound—it’s a way to connect with people from different backgrounds through a shared experience. Whether I’m DJing a packed dance floor, performing at a community event, or producing my own music, there’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing people smile, dance, and forget about their worries for a while.
What makes the journey even more meaningful is watching my growth over the years. Starting as someone with a passion for music and evolving into a DJ and producer, has taught me the value of persistence, creativity, and believing in my vision. every opportunity to perform is a reminder that music has the power to create memories that last long after the night is over. Knowing that my work can impact someone’s day, inspire them, or simply make them feel good is what keeps me motivated to keep creating.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Absolutely. Looking back on my creative journey, there are several resources I wish I had known about earlier. One of the biggest is understanding the business side of music—things like music publishing, performance royalties, mechanical royalties, and copyright registration. As a DJ and producer, I spent a lot of time focusing on the creative process, but learning how to properly protect and monetize my music would have saved me time and helped me build a stronger foundation from the start.
