We recently connected with David Hoffman and have shared our conversation below.
David, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Real estate, and business as a whole says to focus on the next client; the next transaction. We focus on each relationship. The customer experience is important, but the relationship outside of the transaction is when the true relationship is born. We check in, and focus on past clients, friends, and sphere, regardless of the agenda, versus obtaining future clients.
When you give more than you take with those who know you, trust you, love you, and respect you, most will reciprocate, and give you a chance to show that you’re the expert in your field, and not too busy for them.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up with a lot of neglect and loss; taken from my mom at 2, and only getting to visit her 3-4 times per year, for 3-4 hours each time. I never had a relationship outside of with my mother a few hours a year, which is why I value relationships so much. After becoming a nationally recognized economist in Washington, DC at the age of 21, and becoming known as an expert on tax policy, my mom passed away in 2024 before I had a chance to visit her in NYC and say goodbye. I then moved to Charlotte sight unseen to start a career in real estate. In 2020, we opened our own brokerage with a focus on the relationship. In 2023, my book, “Relationships over Rules’ was released by Broadstreet Publishing.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I drank toilet water and ate dog food as a young man when thirsty or hungry.
Also, after losing everything that I had in 2009, I built my business back up as a single agent and opened our own firm during the pandemic (2020).

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I told my mother over the holidays of 2023 that I would visit here in NYC.
She passed away three weeks later at 52. I thought I had decades and decades with her.
This taught me to follow through with my commitments, and if it goes on the calendar, it stays on the calendar, barring a personal emergency.
