Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danielle Thomson . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Danielle , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is can be hard to create but it is created with the consistency and hardwork behind it.
Once upon a time I found myself homeless, in a job that took me away from my babies, living paycheck to paycheck, lacking balance and joy, and living in a hard life transitional period.
From this struggle an idea came to me. I created magic that changed my life and my kids lives. I left my teaching job, and ventured out to build my honey shine empire. But what I found along the way was individuals needing something more in life. I set out to create success in a skincare product that would change the game.
I saw people with stories
People with goals
Visions
Hopes
Dreams
These values come in all shapes and sizes. I became alive hearing the stories of how Honey Shine healed a wife needing a salve to treat her husbands bed sores.
How Honey shine have a pre teen girl confidence back then hope tackling middle school and finally loving the skin she is in.
How a mother struggling to find a product to heal her child’s eczema finally have a solution that lasts, heals, and protects.
How Honey Shine has made a moms job a little easier to treat sunburns, baby acne and diaper rash with simple ease.
How Honey Shine helped a new mom on her breastfeeding journey and create an ease in bonding and ease with the new nursing feels.
Or
How Honey Shine helped a cancer and radiation patient go through the transition of therapy and the aftermath with our Calendula salve to help any discomforts or skin irritation.
I’ve got hundreds of stories from so many people sharing how my one idea has helped them one way or another. And this is all possible because I became uncomfortable and took a chance to provide for my kids while helping others live their best skincare life. So I say to you if you are trying to find something you can create magic and it be loved and needed by so many.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi Everyone! Im so thankful you are here and we are connected in so many ways. I’m so happy to see lots of new faces on my Honey Shine page. 3 years in this business and we have grown so much in such a short amount of time.
I’d like to introduce myself. Im Danielle or Dani please feel to call me Dani if you prefer ❤️ I am a local ventura county business woman, skincare maker, mom of 5, entrepreneur, and your local Honey Shine gal.
The concept of Honey Shine began back in 2016 but wasn’t officially created until May of 2020. So many people were suffering with dry skin, cracked hands and eczema due to hand washing and using hand sanitizer. My business began as a necessity and turned into a well known local brand. Starting out as a local porch pickup business at my home to online sales and now we have expanded to 20 stores in ventura county, Santa Barbara county and La county.
As a former teacher, I am happy to close that chapter of my life and build my business at home while being with my kids in their young stages of life.
You can find me at markets on the weekends to sample our bestseller Calendula Salve. Once you try you will be hooked! 100s of uses and perfect for everyone in the family. Everything is handmade and locally sourced ingredients for your skins pleasure.
I’m very blessed to have made so many great connections with customers, retailers, and local businesses. Please come on by one of our markets to say Hi! I’m excited to connect with you if we haven’t yet!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My mantra for 2023 is I’m on my way
8 years ago my life was in such a different place. I’m grateful for the hardships I went through because it meant I was to be where I am right now. All those years ago I found myself struggling to find a place to live, going through a divorce, care for my infant son and lacked in the confidence to become successful from my own talents and skills.
After some time I landed somewhat on my feet. But struggled to be present for my kids as well as my career. I desired more out of life in being successful but without sacrificing the young years of my boys.
After I had my 3rd son I decided to leave teaching job and started documenting my calendula salve making process on social media. In one post, I earned so much interest and may of 2020 I received my first orders. Since then it’s never slowed down. I received my first wholesale purchase order a month into business.
3 years later, Bigger and better opportunities are on the horizon. The last couple of months have been hard transition for me but I know that just means I’m ready for the next level of my business and life as a business owner. This work I hustled hard to complete my orders. That meant long hours, tight schedules, and laser focus on the prize.
Consistency is harder when no one is clapping for you. You must clap for yourself during those times, you should always be your biggest fan. When times get tough I am learned to endure, adapt and keep going.
Being consistent keeps propelling me forward. I am beginning to see the fruits of my labor and I can’t wait to see what more is to come.
This is my year to take care of me, take care of my family and take care of my business all in one.
How did you build your audience on social media?
All of my growth on social media has been organic growth and word of mouth. In my county, I have achieved brand recognition from my promotion of my products. If you go on my instagram we are closing in on 5k followers and 1000s of positive and raving reviews of our bestselling Calendula Salve. I believe my success on social media is presenting my story and something relatable to my audience. I have been able to identify my ideal clientele and show my story for them. Also to share that any struggling mom has the ability to achieve and come out ahead to make their dreams come true.
My advice is know your audience and share your story. All of the successful businesses create relatable content for their audience.
