Daniel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Daniel Jacob Hill, as a native to Salt Lake City, Utah my career as a hairstylist began at Taylor Andrews Academy of Hair Design in the summer of 2008, over a decade later I’m here to change the game!
Within my career as a hairstylist I created opportunities to work backstage at New York Fashion Week, Sundance Film Festival, and Ballet West. My love for the theater created a path for me to join Utah Opera and Symphony (2012-2018) as a wig and makeup artist. In 2017 I was offered the opportunity to be the wig and make-up designer for Utah Operas productions of The Long Walk (2017), co-designer of Don Giovanni (2017), and La Boheme (2017).
Between 2009-2018 I worked for the haircare company, UNITE as an Educator and Regional Artistic Director where I regularly gave public speeches to distributors, clients, and other educators, while also teaching hair cutting and hair styling classes to other industry leaders.
As a practitioner of yoga and other mindfulness practices since the age of 18 I hold a wealth of knowledge on eastern practices like yoga, pranayama, mindful meditation, and sound bowl ceremonies. In 2019 I traveled to India to expand my knowledge on Sivananada Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Pranayama, and Ayurveda.
In the summer of 2019 I published my book Pattern Breakers. A book on assisting those in the customer service world create healthy patterns, boundaries, and cultivate a strong foundation of empathy to assist them in their work and beyond.
In May of 2023 I opened up Omni salon + wellness. My purpose within my career is to empower and motivate people to look and feel their best, while also assisting individuals to grow and transform into a new powerful way of living! The clients I see at the salon are individuals who are looking to have a gorgeous hair, with less daily maintenance. I assist my clients in creating daily healthy patterns to maintain the health integrity of the hair, while simplifying how they style and work with their own hair.
On my personal Instagram page, I joined my love for hairdressing and yoga together. I have a series called yoga for hairdressers in which I teach yoga, philosophy and yoga stretches to Hairdressers to help them with pains caused by hairdressing. Giving an opportunity to elevate their days behind the chair, working in the salon.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
This may sound like a silly answer, what helped me build a reputation in this city and within this industry comes down to discipline and customer service. Being disciplined in the practices of a hairdresser and yoga, instructor has allowed me to be more professional, more educated, and more confident in what I am doing, which builds trust with my coworkers, clients, and community.
As hairdressers our first job is within customer service, by providing excellent customer service to every single client creates trust, and a respectful relationship between the clients and myself.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I have been practicing cosmetology for the last 15 years. When I graduated cosmetology school, it was during the recession of 2008. I was building a clientele in one of the hardest times economically, I was able to do so by providing excellent service and treating customers with respect. People needed to get their hair done regardless, however, people were more picky and choosy during that time in 2008. People did not want to waste their money on a service in which they had a bad experience, due to technical hair techniques, customer service, or whatever may be. I had to learn very quickly to be not only technically excellent at what I do, but I had to provide excellent customer service. I honestly believe that if someone is disciplined to show up to work on time, look the part, and play the part, while providing excellent customer service, that individual will become successful, no matter the odds .
