We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dakota Seger. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dakota below.
Dakota, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
When i opened the doors to my salon it was just my mom and I. She is a licensed stylist of 35+ years and she decided to join in on my new salon! As for today we have added 3 other amazing and talented stylist and an amazing lash artist! The “interviewing” was pretty simple basically we talked through a walk through showing them where everything was and we discussed everything we have to offer! I am so happy our team works so well together and is so helpful towards one another as a team should. I wouldn’t have done anything differently or sooner.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Dakota, owner of Tribe Hair and Co located in Winter Haven, FL. I have been a licensed stylist of 6 years and have such a passion for creating art with hair and teaching newer stylist to help them achieve their goals. I grew up in the hair salon as a child, my mom is also a stylist! I have just known all my life growing up i loved beauty and i decided to follow that passion!

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by giving my guest incentives just to follow my page and share their hair photos, which in return generated business for me because it’s basically free advertising! Everyone has social media! Also using hashtags for my surrounding area helped a lot of new people find me through those!
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Going into opening my salon I truthfully didn’t have much fallback in the bank. Super scary but i just kinda went with it and had a budget that i stuck to as much as possible! I took a lot of extra clients, working longer days and missing time with my daughter to fund the business during renovations but it was worth it in the long run. I now have a salon to call home, an inviting warm space for clients to unwind in luxury, and my salon family!
