We recently connected with Dajé and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dajé, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always attended schools that had a big focus on the arts. I always either sung, danced or played instruments. I really enjoyed it, I was always interested in persuing it; but being Haitian it wasn’t viewed as a serious career. As i got older, it just continued to be something I always dreamed about, I kept thinking to myself “If I never did this will I be satisfied with my life?” My answer was no. So that was the moment I decided to persue my dream.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
People know me as a recording artist, but I’m a creative at heart. I like to sing, dance, act and I’m a part of the creative process as a whole within my artistry. Within my artistry I co-produce the beat, I write my songs, I choreograph the dancing, I creatively direct the videos, I help style the set and help edit the videos; I really enjoy the whole creative process, and I think thats what sets me apart.
I’m most proud of becoming an inspiration to Young People in the Haitian community who can see someone that looks like them, someone who came from a similar upbringing, who stayed true to themselves and who they wanted to be.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me is watching your vision come to life, and seeing people enjoy it. It’s always nerve wracking to share your art; and being vulnerable is a thing we have to do as creatives. So to see people enjoy my vision behind a song/ video or performance its always very rewarding for me.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think people lose sight of the humanity of creatives as they elevate in their career, and become celebrities. I think what most people see is the fancy hotels, the nice restaurants, the nice cars; and they immediately assume that their lives are easier but navigating this industry is very challenging. There is a lot of pressure on who you’re supposed to be and how you are supposed to be it, and although the work is different its still work, and it comes with its own challenges. So I believe people should extend more compassion to artists/creatives.
