We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daisa Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Daisa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
As of 7 months ago I left my full time job of 5 years and my relationship to be a travel nurse. As someone who does not do anything without thorough planning and fail safes in place this was a complete shock to anyone who knows me. From a young age I’ve held onto this sense of hyper independence but also the overwhelming need to people please and take care of everyone around me. This was the first time in 25 years of life I made an impulse decision that only benefited my own wellbeing. The first time I was truly selfish. Now I’m in Washington 1600 miles from home and my life has completely changed.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a 25 year old travel nurse from Kansas City. I have always known I wanted to help people. My first interest was psychology after spending years compartmentalizing and people pleasing id grown an interest in why humans behaved the way they did. It was one of my professors who suggested nursing to me. I had been dealing with my grandmother being on hospice and felt a lack of direction. Nursing is where I found my purpose.
Within my career I’ve found my voice and deepened my empathy and love for others. With that I have learned how to share my experiences in order to possibly help others through their own journeys. Stories and lessons meant to invoke reflection or healing within others. Im proud to know the impact some of my stories have had on others. As well as how its made others feel seen.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The best I can give for growing your clientele is being authentic to yourself!
I can’t explain the amount of time I’ve spent regretting not doing things sooner. Post the content! Send the email! Take the risk! By not doing the things we are called to do is not only doing ourselves a disservice but the people who are supposed to experience you as well.

Have you ever had to pivot?
As previously mentioned I left my family, friends, and relationship to travel. I left my safety net 1600 miles away. To take a job somewhere I’ve never been. In a different specialty and new hospital. I had no one I knew here other than my roommate. I have never felt so alone. But within the time I felt alone I learned to be a better version of myself. The risk I took opened myself up to a sense of security that I could now provide for myself. Since I’ve left I’ve met new people visited other countries and developed a better relationships. Who knew that my pivot would change the entire trajectory of my life as I knew it.
