We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dainelis & Daniela Rodriguez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dainelis & Daniela below.
Dainelis & Daniela , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Think back to the times when you would watch cartoons, and anytime a character had a “great idea” a light bulb popped up above their head. That is Brilla. A beautiful idea that one day popped into our heads, and never left. Our name Brilla, translating to “you shine”, is a symbol that reflects a space we created to allow small business entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life.
Growing up in a Cuban household, our parents raised us on the concept that we should follow our dreams no matter how big or small. Of course, they always recommend the practical career paths of becoming lawyers, doctors, etc. but ultimately the decision was ours. When we decided that we wanted to become entrepreneurs in 2021, we went through many trials in choosing a name that suited us as Latina designers. Not only are we graphic designers, but we are also creative strategists, hands-on creatives, and illustrators. Once we were able to hone our niche, our mom helped us see the light, (see what we did there). Thus, the name Brilla came to light in late 2022.
Ever since then, we have been working on building a design space where creatives feel free to share their ideas and make them a reality.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Our business began in early 2021. As sisters, who shared a passion for creating things both physically and digitally, we wanted to develop a business that allowed us to freely share, collaborate, and bring ideas to life. Once we were able to hone our niche, our brand and business, Brilla, was born.
Brilla, meaning “you shine” in Spanish, is a design space that currently focuses on the following services: website design, branding (logos, business cards, brochures, etc.), and promotional products (clothing, stickers, etc.) We encourage our clients to book a consultation, in which we discuss everything from the message they want to convey to selecting the appropriate font and colors. We provide drafts of the product before submitting the final product and keep in consistent contact so that our clients are involved every step of the way.
As a design space, we offer premiere solutions for entrepreneurs who are looking to bring their design ideas to life. We understand what it is like to start a business and not have any notion of where to begin in terms of branding, specifically in creating a logo and marketing your business. We are here to help you look into your story and display the most authentic version of yourself to your audience.
What sets us apart from others is our motto: bring color back into your world. Our brand embraces fun colors that reflect the forth and effort we put into designing for our clients. We encourage our clients to be as expressive as possible, in terms of color, elements, and fonts.
We are most proud of how far we have come in terms of growing and honing our skills. It has been a long journey, and it continues to be one with constant obstacles appearing on our path. However, we are resilient and do our best to ensure that we do everything in our power to actually bring your idea to life, no matter what.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Instant gratification is not real. When we started our business, it was at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. We saw so many people on TikTok and Instagram selling items through Etsy, Amazon, or other platforms being met with immediate success. However, the reality of the situation was much different. When we initially put ourselves out onto these platforms, we had very few people seek out our services or even purchase our products. Quickly, we learned that we needed to market and build customer loyalty. It was very discouraging to know that you can make similar products as another creator, and have very few people be interested. However, we are thankful for those experiences as they taught us many skills and gave us the confidence to overcome any hurdles that came our way.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the validation we receive when clients choose to work with us and/or buy our designs and products. Although we are Latina creatives, we don’t come from a design background. We didn’t go to school to receive a design degree. All the work that we create is self-taught through online platforms and consistent practice.
