Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dacia Zimmer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dacia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
If I could go back in time I would have started my marketing business years prior. I had always been told I would do great running my own business and know the ins and outs. I have worked in the hospitality industry for over 18 years and have been doing marketing for 15 years. I have been a marketing manager for some big hotel brands like Marriott and Hilton and worked at a resort and Casino. I love to help make a difference and support local businesses. I know I would have been happier running my own schedule and working with clients that enjoy my help.

Dacia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started up “thingstodo” channels in the carolinas about 5 years ago. I wanted to showcase the different activities and places to go after the pandemic. I also wanted to have a channel to feature my other “thingstodo” businesses like my mobile coffee trailer named Cool Beans Wilmington and my luxury picnic business Coastal Picnic Wilmington. I have been able to promote my 3 businesses and be very successful at all three. They work very well together and I can create my schedule to form around each business.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I believe in supporting all local businesses so long as it suits both parties needs. I once had the kids tv show Cocomo reach out to me to promote on my channel and I had to turn them down because my profile’s demographic doesn’t match the kids show. They were very appreciative of my honesty and not trying to make money off of a business. Although the monetary value would have been nice and to work with a big company, it wasn’t what was best for the business or my followers.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
The old saying is true, you have to have money to make money. I decided to use the money I was receiving from the pandemic to fund my businesses, I had the support of my now husband, and family to get me up and going. I am great at saving money so I was able to use some money from my savings as well. I try not to use bank loans and only credit cards I can pay off quickly
