Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Curtiss Wheeler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Curtiss, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Allsect Pest Control mission is “Creating relationships one house at a time”. Over my career as a pest control professional I found that building relationships has been key to my success. Success apart I believe in being genuine when it comes to actually caring about people other than just considering them another notch to the books. I have watched families grow, and kids grow into young adults, Whether a family welcomes a baby or a pet I believe if it’s important to them then it’s important to me. People can choose from a variety of companies to use but to actually have someone come in their home and feel like they are family is my goal.
Curtiss, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Curtiss Wheeler. I have been in the pest control industry for 11 years. I am married to my beautiful wife Jemila Wheeler and we are parents to two awesome little boys Dailen and Tatumn! My start into the industry was simply just a job change. I was looking to make more money until I finished college. I honestly never thought I would have a career involving bugs! Over the years I became really good at being a pest professional. I became the most experienced and sought after technician at the company I previously worked for. I built a stable route where the only time I had cancellations is when customers moved. I can honestly say over the years I have met some awesome people. When my sons were born I had customers give me gifts, and offer advice. My sons over the years have been to birthday parties and created great relationships and friendships with clients kids which is unusual for a pest control professional. Usually people don’t want to see their bug man until they have a problem. I eventually started to feel a sense of frustration with my career after a while because I wanted grow and expand my career. Finally I made the decision to take the state certified test to see if my career would further advance. Once I took the test I passed it and a sense of relief and happiness went through me. A year after passing the test nothing really advanced in my career…yet. Eventually after years of trying to prove my worth to others I decided to prove to myself that greatness is within reach I just needed to take a different path so me and my wife started Allsect Pest Control where we offer residential & commercial pest control services. With faith you can go far! I was nervous but proud that we took a leap of faith and opened our own business. It’s a step to creating a legacy for our family. We truly believe starting now will pass down through our family for generations.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients is referrals. Most people like to do business with people they like and trust and word of mouth goes far. When you strive to deliver high level of service it leaves an impression and it shows who you are and what you do as a professional . As a company we tried Google ads, Facebook ads etc but not much luck. I even went to a few networking events I just sort of found that people are more interested in telling their stories vs actually networking. But in an industry like pest control customers want trustworthy people in their homes. Usually family and friends are great sources of recommendations. I can’t tell you how many people have called me because a family or friend referred them to me.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Just being a good person and being transparent with people. . .not trying to sell the moon to people. In the pest control industry you don’t have to be a good salesman if you are genuine and good at what you do. When someone has a problem you will be the first person they call, trust me. Even dealing with realtors I am often told that they rather deal with a more personable small business. With Allsect it goes back to the mission “Building relationships one house at a time” Emphasis on relationships!
