We recently connected with Curtina Pope and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Curtina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
CPFit is a personal training brand that specializes in body transformations, lifestyle changes and long term confidence and results. While I currently train everyone of all ages, my true passion is working with senior citizens. My grandad who just celebrated his 88th birthday is still active in the gym. Funny story I ran into him about 8 years ago at the gym and said “Pops what are you doing here?”. Which is a silly question because we were there for the same reason. I realized then that seniors need their own spaces and have special needs that should be catered to. I don’t really have a “mission” per say but that is my inspiration.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was always an athlete and have always been fitness driven. After I graduated college I started a career in law enforcement, which is where my fitness journey restarted and became a part of my everyday life. I lost 30 pounds naturally. Fast forward I moved to Houston where I was presented the opportunity to train others professionally. I take pride in being personable and ensuring each person gets the attention they need, even in my group classes. I specialize in whole body transformations and I train individuals, couples and groups. I am proud of how I faced adversity and started my business from the ground up in a new city. My supporters should know that I’m a work in progress and I strive to show up as the best version of myself so my clients can receive a quality session every time we meet.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The first 5 years after graduating college was dedicated to my law enforcement career. While it was great on paper and I learned valuable tools, I realized that was not the route for me. At the top of the Covid epidemic I actually started a mixology career which is a complete 180. After moving and starting over I added personal training to my resume as well. If you would have asked me 5 years ago where I would be today this would not be my answer but sometimes pivoting and stepping out on faith is what we need to reach new heights.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Actually both of my side hustles turned into careers. First, being a mixologist was only meant to be a side hustle and a fun way to make ends meet. Now I am a lead bartender and have 3 cocktails crafted myself on the menu, who would have thought. Next my personal training career has taken new heights. I now teach 4 classes at my gym that are growing weekly and I have consistent clients with great results.
