We were lucky to catch up with Crystal Nerpel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Crystal, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Is your team able to work remotely? If so, how have you made it work? What, if any, have been the pitfalls? What have been the non-obvious benefits?
As a one-women operation I could only work with one client a day, locally. In 2019 I introduced virtual organizing as an option for my potential clients. This means I can work with multiple clients a day from all over the country. In that way, 2020 was a blessing to my business because it made my new business model more appealing to clients.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I became an organizing expert after years of dealing with my own messes. I am able to relate to my clients because I have walked in their uncomfortable shoes. I know what it feels like to be drowning in the day-to-day chaos, and it’s not necessary. There are things you can do to calm the chaos.
I believe everyone deserves to have a home that lovingly supports their dream life. With a little practice, you can shift the energy in your home to mirror the life you are striving to create.
I am very proud of my Loving Your Home Club. This is an affordable membership site I created to offer support and guidance to woman who are wanting to live their best lives. Members have the option to join live zoom meetings each week, we have book studies, guest speakers and a new focus each month.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Loving your home is a team sport, but I used to juggle the day-to-day finances and chores alone because 1) I didn’t want to seem weak and ask for help 2) I was avoiding conflict with my husband.
As a result, I was not doing a good job at life. I would miss appointments and forget to pay bills. I was physically and mentally exhausted most of the time. I resented my husband, my self-worth was low and my home was a complete disaster.
Basically, I was a MESS. And the crazy thing is, I kept doing it the same way every day. Until, I finally hit rock bottom.
At the end of 2016 I was done with the insanity. I was no longer going to walk into my home and be smacked in the face with indignation. I was ready to let go of the resentment, exhaustion and embarrassment of not living my best life. Mostly, I was ready to forgive myself.
I can only describe it as a switch being flipped. The way I was doing life was not working for me, and I needed to change that. In an instant, the resentment started to give way to determination and new ideas. I got my mess cleaned up and started helping other women do the same.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
In addition to the Loving Your Home Club, I also sell Organizing & Decluttering Guides on Etsy. I do this mostly as a creative outlet and a way for more people to discover how they can create a home and life they love.
