We recently connected with Courvoisier Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Courvoisier, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
During the height of COVID, I had noticed a lot of people opening small businesses and I wanted to be apart of their journey. I gradually, outgrew doing anything for businesses and wanted to venture off to something more. Once, I decided to switch over to party decorations, I would practice and learn different techniques to use for our holiday or birthday parties. Then I became comfortable enough to offer my services to the world.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
The party decoration business is a fun business! You get to be creative and watch your vision come to light once you start to assemble the items. When I started I was set on just snacks and I ventured out and tried balloons once. My heart was with snacks because I truly enjoyed designing and putting the items together. After a while I started adding different services to my business. But I removed balloons services and left it to the professionals.
Sometimes, the excitement of crafting and learning new items can be overwhelming. As I have been doing it for a few years I had to realize that there were certain items that I have to be okay with not offering. I had to open up to adding new items. I had to get out of my comfort zone and put my faith in myself. Each time I took the risk and added a new item, I realized that I could do it.
This business requires you to invest. As you get more clientele, you may need more printers to keep up with orders. I had to find trial and error when it comes to products. An example is glossy paper. I wanted to offer quality items and realized that I had to spend the money on quality supplies to continue to do so. I also looked into being an affiliate with certain products.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media plays a huge part in my business success. One thing I had to learn was my algorithm. I had to learn trending sounds, trends, etc. At one point hashtags were huge and now reels are the thing that can push out the videos to people who have not seen your business.
Being consistent on social media helps push out your business to people who have never seen your work. Sometimes, I may not have business and I will take the time to perfect my craft. While doing so I will practice and make a video. If there is a trend on social media where I can get future clients to interact, I will hop on it. Also, the quality of the video or pictures gets a new client’s attention.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I operate two small businesses. Lessons tend to cross over between both businesses. One lesson I had to learn was that people will support who they want. My clientele supports me. There were times I would wish I had more clientele. I would get frustrated because I felt that I was lacking and had to do more to get attention for business on social media. And while doing so I drained myself.
Social media plays a huge part in marketing for my business. I have been able to reach people out of the state that I live in. I had to unlearn that “There’s nobody supporting me”, when in fact I am right where I need to be. I am the marketer for my business. In order to continue to be successful I have to put my business to where clients can find me.
