We were lucky to catch up with Courtney Gibson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Courtney thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

My inspiration came from me being consistent and being motivated to lose weight. I, noticed once you let go of the excuses, and start really, making the changes and being consistent, you can lose the weight. I went from 300lbs, to my current weight is 264, by eating healthier, like I gave up red meat, bread, pop, snacks, etc, I started working out 3, times a week, and being so motivated, as I saw the weight lifting off. I was like “Wow” just imagine if I keep going” ! That was my motivation. I felt like, others needed to know my story. I wanted to start a workout gear line at first, and then I knew I needed to have more than just workout gear, so I started an athletic gear company. Best decision, I’ve made to become my own boss! So many opportunities to level up, and just to hear others tell me I inspire them. It’s definitely a blessing. That’s why I named my company. Motivation Over Everything Clothing, Because, with motivation you can achieve anything!

Courtney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I am a mother of two young adults, a boy and a girl, The best of both worlds. before becoming a business owner, I always worked in healthcare. I have a CNA certification, phlebotomy certification, and dental assistant certification. In, 2018, I got into a really bad car accident, that left me with a broken leg! Doctors told me I would never be able to work back in healthcare, due to my injury, even with thought I had surgery, they felt like it would be too much on my leg to go back to healthcare. I was off work for 3 years, after , which led to me being unhealthy, and just not watching my weight! Gaining more pounds than I were , my doctors were concerned and wanted me to get more serious about my health. This is what led me to my business venture. I am so glad things turned out the way that they did , because I would have never thought about being an entrepreneur. I didn’t stop there. I am also a dental hygiene student. I’ve always wanted a career in healthcare, and at first it was nursing, but once I became a dental assistant, I fell inlove with that field, and wanted to further my education. Currently, enrolled at Jackson community college as a transfer from Lansing Community College. I take pride in education as much as being an entrepreneur. I love learning, and having knowledge. My brand Motivation Over Everything Clothing (M.O.E) we have been in fashion shows such as LA fashion week, we have been featured in a reality tv show on Vh-1 , we also was featured in a magazine that’s based in Chicago. We were nominated just last month for best clothing brand. And as of now, recently we became partners with Walmart. So my brand will be on Walmart.com soon. We also, collab with tiktok , so we are now on tiktok shop. I have a vision and I am not stopping until , I succeed that vision. I am very thankful for each opportunity, am very thankful for all the highs, the lows, the ups & downs. It teach me, to not give up and keep going! I want people to know, no-matter what you have been through, or Going through, you can get through it! Stay committed, stay motivated, and win! That’s key.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

I funded my business. I came into some money , before I started my business. I was already investing in myself, so when the business idea came about, I just started investing into building my business plan.

What makes me who I am today, is the struggles I had to face before. I pour into empty cups, but I don’t get the same in return. I stopped doing that. I am now selfish with my time, I am more serious about my growth and goals. If you not bringing me peace, love and happiness, you can not be apart of me. I only surround myself around positivity now! I will not deal with negativity. That’s how I move ! I had to change things around, after going through a lot in my life.
