We recently connected with Courtney Cosgriff and have shared our conversation below.
Courtney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I am mostly self taught via Youtube tutorials and a lot of trial and error. It’s hard to believe, but even 6-7 years ago, there were a lot less weaving tutorials available online. Maryanne Moodie’s video classes and Hello Hydrangea’s tutorials were a big help to me in the beginning.
I think just practicing your skills every day is what really teaches you. I loved weaving from the start so I touched my loom and fibers everyday because it was that exciting! My only obstacles in the beginning where my skills weren’t caught up to all the ideas I had!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a self taught weaver who got into the craft around 2018. One of the things that makes me stand out (or maybe it hinders me!) is that my pieces rarely look alike. I think artists put a lot of pressure on themselves and finding their exact “style” right away. Personally, I don’t want all my pieces to look alike as I don’t feel called to make similar things hardly ever.
All I can say for sure, is that my work is inspired by retro designs and patterns. I am called to the colors, textures, and lines of the 60s and 70s. In some ways, it feels like the last era that wasn’t afraid of color and being bold.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love finding the right colors and textures for a client and their specific space. It’s so fun to see how a piece of fiber art can really complete a space!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
A personal goal of mine is to complete a weaving or fiber art project for a commercial or hotel space.
