Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cory Tabor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cory , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
I firmly believe that education is always a great investment and I would consider it to be the wisest. Second to that, I believe obtaining the necessary tools and equipment equipment, if needed, will prevent having to rely on anyone else at the end of the day.
I made a fairly extreme purchase when I bought my VO booth and some of my equipment very early in my journey. The logic behind making that purchase was that I was going “all in” and holding myself accountable to follow through with my decision whole heartedly. I believe that if you’re going to gamble, the best bet is on yourself. Many obstacles may make you stronger along the way but nothing can really ever stop you…… except for yourself

Cory , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Growing up in small town south of New Orleans, I was encompassed by the arts that I continue to identify to, still to this day. The culture is very rich in what I consider the arts of music, painting, and culinary as well as entertaining and hospitality. I was introduced to Tattooing as a teenager and immediately fell in love with it and it became a dream of mine to be a tattooer. I am a professional tattoo artist by trade. As long I can remember, people have commented and complimented my voice. Being in Hollywood I became exposed to opportunities that I wasn’t necessarily aware of previously, such as voice acting and voiceovers. Tattooing had become less fulfilling and it became clear to me that voice acting was something that I wanted to pursue. I then started to take classes with Kalmenson & Kalmenson, who in the opinion of many, are living legends in the industry. A producer by the name of Chuck Duran with Demos That Rock really captivated me and it became a dream of mine to work him and have him produce my first demo. After two years of continued education, I reached out to Chuck and after meeting with him he agreed to work with me on my demo. The dream then became to obtain representation in the industry of voiceover. While continuing to build my brand which is Sweet Bee Voice Over, I shopped my demo in the Los Angeles area. Within six months of which included a strike within the industry, I received an email from my now business partner. I signed with Avail Artist Management and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the opportunities that are presented to my by being on their roster.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There came a point and time in my tattooing career where I couldn’t shake the feeling that there would be more to my story than just being a tattooer. Something deep inside of me made feel the need to venture out of my comfort zone. So I began packing up my things and put my house on the market. My friends and family would ask me what my plans were and I remember telling them that I didn’t know what was next but I did know that I had to be ready for it. My business began to slow down at a rate that was pretty much pushing me out and forcing me to make a move. Instead of fighting it, I decided to go with the flow and embrace stepping into the unknown. I closed my tattoo shop and sold my house to make the move to Los Angeles where I hoped there would be more opportunities than my hometown had to offer me at the time. By following my heart, these actions ultimately led me to a new and much more fulfilling life, in more ways than I could’ve ever imagined. This is when I began my journey as a voiceover artist. The reward has ultimately been much greater than the risk. I’m super thankful for my new family and career that I feel I have been rewarded to me by taking such a huge risk. I’m reassured and often reminded that following my heart is always the answer and I plan to always do just that..

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I feel that a lot of people tend to play it safe. I often hear people say that they wish they could do something. I’ve proven to myself time and time again that with a little bit of discipline and dedication, we can accomplish anything. Dreams are absolutely attainable. If there is something that anyone feels strongly about in there heart then it is most likely meant for them and a calling that is definitely worth answering.
