We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Corina Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Corina , appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I know that I wanted lashes in the name somehow, but nothing general or boring. The usual is always, “lashes by”, or “lashed by”. My business name came from the influence of fashion show modeling. All the glitz, and glamour that comes with it. Honestly, the first word that came to mind was “fabulous”, but I added a twist to it; and that’s where “fabulashes.byrina” came from.

Corina , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I decided to take the step to get into the eyelash industry, due to my hobby and passion for runway modeling. I was always a shy girl, however I came across a fashion show commentator that went to the same church as me. He was determined to influence me to get into modeling, because of my height, natural beauty & fashion sense. I gave in, because something in mind did intrigue me about it, so I did my first fashion show at the age of 14. I would have to get my makeup done every show & I disliked, dreaded, hating wearing false eyelashes. However, I had to look the part, why wear all these beautiful clothes but not look the part aesthetically. I haven’t modeled since 2019, early 2020 before the pandemic occurred I decided to pay for a 2 day lash training, and here I am slaying beautiful women with natural looking lashes. One thing as your future lash artist, I am versatile & will service you with what your natural lashes can handle, as well as educating you on the importance of lash health & maintenance. I’m very proud of my success over the years, and never in a million years would I think I would have my own studio space. I started off in my apartment, working in salons, traveling to do lashes in other people’s homes/establishments. I’m very thankful for my current supporters, and I’m eager to see what else is in store.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Marketing, marketing! Think about it, who else is going to market your brand, if you don’t? I tried everything, I paid for ads on social media, I paid a marketing companies to put out ads for me, flyers, business cards, vendor events, networking events. Everything that I’ve mentioned I’ve done, and the list goes on. I’ve realized depending on word of mouth, or family/friends supporting you cannot be relied on when trying to get easy clients.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source for new clients has been my presence whether it’s been on social media, showing up to my studio space when there are no scheduled appointments, for possible walk-ins, and networking events. As long as you’re showing your clients, audience consistency, the clients will come.
