We were lucky to catch up with Colton Rhault recently and have shared our conversation below.
Colton, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
To be honest, I never even thought about it. It just became a thing I randomly started one day and found out that I loved doing it. I started blogging about and taking photos of food when I was in high school. It all started as a hobby and creative outlet for me. Little did I know, some people would actually be interested in my thoughts and love for anything, and everything, involving food. Growing up, I always loved to write, especially about topics I was invested in. It has been 5 years since I started the page and my mentality has yet to change. It is still just as fun as it was when I started and it still feels like a creative outlet for me. I have improved upon my writing along with photography skills which have made my page look better- and have slowly made me realize that this could actually be something more than just a hobby. My love for food in all of its facets has kept me going and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hello! I am Colton and I run a food page/ blog through Instagram. I am a digital creator. I take photos of food (although my page does contain other subjects) and I write about my thoughts on the food in the photo; simple as that. I provide recommendations for people who follow my account and support me. Surprisingly, I have become somewhat of a folder for people to look through when they are searching for a good place to eat. I am based in Washington State and Colorado. I go back and forth between the two frequently so that leads to a lot of my posts being about food places from either state. I also document places I eat at when I travel so even if people aren’t located in Washington or Colorado, there is still a chance they might find a place in their city they have never been to!
Instagram is flooded with food-centered Instagram accounts so it is quite difficult to stand out among the more popular and established ones. I feel that I am more personal through my page than a lot of other creators. I try to keep in touch with people who support me and stay consistent. I am proud of my improvement overall when it comes to writing and photography as it has helped me become recognized by more people in the community. I still have a small following but I cherish every one of them.
I hope this has helped people learn about me. I am simply, just passionate about writing and food. I love to talk about it and be someone that people can go to for recommendations. I hope that you like my page and if you do, send me a message! I’d love to talk to anyone who also loves food and the art form that it is.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Personally, I wish I was less timid to reach out to other people in the community for help or anything else. I felt that since they had a large following, much larger than mine, they wouldn’t care to communicate. it turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong! I have talked with many people in my community now and they all have been super nice and helpful. I have formed connections with people I never would have if I didn’t reach out and if I didn’t start my page. It is an amazing feeling to know that you are slowly building a personal community of like-minded individuals along with becoming recognized as a more prominent part of the community yourself.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Consistency. There are times when I haven’t been super consistent with uploading and maintaining connections with the people around me. I lost people who used to support me as they figured it was a waste of time. If I had been more consistent, I would have kept their attention and gained more attention from new people. Stay positive and consistent and the support will slowly come with that.
