We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Colby Wegter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Colby below.
Colby, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I have a lot of opinions on this because so many people see a destination as success. I see it in the every day. Not only does the money in your bank account not represent true success but it’s the most common thing on earth, they just keep printing more of it.
What’s most important is how your time is used and the people you impact. I speak passionately about it in conversation a lot.

Colby, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
If you haven’t read about me before, I have been in the marketing agency world for 12 years. In September 2024, after nine years of bootstrapping a digital marketing agency to global top 1000 and multi-seven figures, I asked myself a question: “Where can you provide the greatest impact?”
Even though I’d served 1100 clients in my career, I saw that other agency owners were struggling. They had little to no support, were experiencing off-the-charts anxiety, and needed help. I decided to create Autonomy Agency to help them. Autonomy Agency is a community exclusively for marketing agency owners to provide them 1:1 mentorship and group support but also proven methods to help them delight, upsell, and retain clients for years. It’s my belief that freedom is created through increasing customer lifetime value, not chasing poor-fits and using high-pressure sales.
The Autonomy Agency program is 90 days, broken into two stages:
STAGE 1 → BALANCE: Achieve baseline + enjoy it again
Feel normal again. You portray a high-performing, successful entrepreneur on the outside but on the inside you’re overwhelmed and stressed. You know you need to take control but you’re stuck in a hamster wheel of chasing revenue and in a state of fear that you’ll lose clients. You know you need a break but you’re also asking, “Am I doing enough?” “Why can’t I handle this better?”
Problem: Lack of boundaries with clients
Solution: We’ll install client communication systems (written + meetings) to clearly define expectations and ensure you’re not required to be “on” all the time.
Problem: Inconsistent, unpredictable revenue
Solution: We’ll use the Client Quality Matrix to audit ideal clients for recurring revenue models and move away from low-paying, high-maintenance clients for good.
Problem: Inefficient time management + constant overwork
Solution: We’ll create processes and systems around your daily operations to claim time back so you can be creative, implement more strategy, and have a personal life again (without feeling guilty).
You’ll stop looking at your calendar with dread and start scheduling life events and embracing white space.
Experience a day-to-day that’s low-stress and allows you to breathe, get excited and build.
STAGE 2 → GROW: Predictable systems that run without you
Go from reactive to strategic. When you know you can keep clients 3-5 times longer, you have a feel good business. Instead of looking outward and feeling inferior to other agencies, you’ll start creating an agency that can grow without depending on you to be the Chief Everything Officer. This stage helps you crack the code on keeping clients happy, retaining them, and upselling them consistently.
Problem: Retaining + upselling perfect-fit clients
Solution: Install proven methods I’ve used to keep clients for 5+ years. You’ll have a clear path to 5X’ing client LTV and ensure revenue stability for years. Go from $30K to $50K lifetime value to a minimum 6-figures per client.
Problem: Creating effective team roles + delegating
Solution: Build a team you can trust, set clear roles and responsibilities, and delegate work effectively so you’re no longer stuck doing everything yourself and can take a week off.
Problem: Build consistent marketing + inbound lead systems
Solution: Implement the Client Sales Engine that continuously brings in quality leads. Bonus: My 5K/mo Organic Traffic strategy to ensure your website ranks in Google and brings in leads. ($12K value)
You’ll have a staff who know exactly what to do, running your agency for you, so you can view it from afar and schedule a week-long vacation without feeling guilty.
Experience freedom from stress about where the next client is coming from or having to look over your team’s shoulder.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Brand loyalty to me comes from two Ps:
Proactive
Personalized
It should be obvious, but few business owners get to know their clients personally. They don’t learn about their interests, their families, or their dream outcomes. My favorite method to unlock these valuable items is asking open-ended questions and ensuring the client feels heard. My mission is to keep every client for years. I want to deliver amazing results for them and their business, but most of all, I want to be their go-to trustworthy partner as they grow. The more you can personalize your approach around these items, the longer you’ll keep them. The more loyal they’ll become. They’ll be advocates for your brand not because of what you deliver but because of how you make them feel.
I keep in touch with clients proactively. I have a Client Bible that I reference and update often. In it, I’ll know exactly what the client cares about most, how they preferred to be communicated with, how often that communication should happen, opportunities to educate them, topics I should avoid, and past moments that made them laugh or engage more fully. It’s a qualitative data gathering system that allows me to double click into what they care about and like and scroll past what they don’t.
Being proactive and personal isn’t about grand gestures, it’s about the little things in the day-to-day.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Other clients, hands down.
I hate high-pressure sales. I prefer Goodwill sales. Goodwill sales come from other clients advocating for my work and professionalism ahead of time. They “put in a good word” so to speak for myself and my team and when it comes to the sales call, it’s a simple demo and a “Where do I sign?”.
I believe in other clients prospecting and selling for me so much that I created a system around it I call the Client Sales Engine.
It has five key parts:
1. Onboard
2. Delight
3. Collect
4. Distribute
5. Empower
If you nail every aspect of this for each client, you’re clients will stay with you and sell for you…for years.
