Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cody Sheski. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Cody thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I was extremely fortunate to have parents who have always pushed me to explore my creative talents. If there was anything I wanted to do in regards to music they made sure I had the opportunity to try it out and provided me with the tools to do so. Even if we didn’t always have the means to get the instrument or music software, they would always figure out a way to make it happen, which is the biggest blessing. I’m pretty sure the drum set was the only music purchase they regretted.
I still remember the first time I called my mom to tell her that I wanted to drop out of college to pursue music. I had been working towards my degree in architecture at the time and it just wasn’t fulfilling. I remember being a complete wreck by what she would say, because we all know pursuing a music career is an insane gamble and probably one of the least consistent career fields out there. At that time I had a good paying job and my first DJ residency at a nightclub, so I had JUST enough confidence to follow through with asking. To my surprise, I’ll never forget her telling me “Who am I to tell you what to do for the rest of your life? It’s your life to live and whatever it is that you want to do and makes you happy, you should follow your dreams.” Those words alone were the spark that ignited my music career and I’ve never looked back since.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve mentioned this in past interviews, but I fell into the music industry by accident. I was always creative and playing instruments growing up, but I never really considered doing music full time as a job. I had met a co worker who had just moved to the states from Turkey that ended up introducing me to the DJ world. After about 6 months of endless hours of practice on a Numark Mix Track controller he had bought me, I had the opportunity to play my first club gig. I’ll never forget that day. It was on Christmas Day and I was rushing from my family’s house, which was about an hour north of the venue in Orlando. My truck broke down half way there, but luckily I was able to get some help from a friend and make it the venue just in time before my set. I mark that as the birth date of my project “Code RED”.
Since then, I’ve toured with a list of incredible artists, held residencies in both Florida and Colorado as a solo act and made a career producing music for other up and coming artists. Today I still tour and DJ as “Code RED” and produce music for artists on the side. I’ve also started an entertainment company this year with my oldest brother called DOP Global. We throw and host insane live events with music acts, aerialists, fire twirlers and just about anything that creates a shock factor. We’re basically carving the company into an EDM Barnum and Bailey’s. My brother and I are both extremely creative individuals, so it’s been an exciting project to be able to work on with him. It has its moments and sleepless nights like any other business, but the journey has been fulfilling in the best ways possible. I’m super proud to be growing the company with him along side my Code RED project.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main mission behind both Code RED and DOP is to help the next person in line. The music industry is a dirty business and I’ve watched so many of my peers get burnt in just about every way possible. Everything I do is to inspire and educate the next generation to prevent them from falling into the same traps. Especially with DOP Global. The DOP stands for “Director of Possibilities”. A Director of Possibility is anyone who creates opportunities for another human being. Whether it’s connecting them with someone in their career field, helping them level up in life, providing assistance in a tough moment, etc. Any instance of a human helping another human is what we preach behind the brand. I think it’s more important now than ever in this world to offer a hand whenever the opportunity presents itself. If one of us wins, we all win.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Support your local talent. Go out there and see live shows, pre save your friend’s songs, stream their music and buy their merch. It’s a full time job to be a creative these days and with that comes a lot of sacrifice that happens behind closed doors that you might not always see or be aware of. Especially in a time where the internet is overtaken by AI. If we want to keep real, tangible and soulful art alive, it’s on everyone to support it and make sure that the people who sacrifice their time and lives for it are able to do so.
