Coach , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Earlier in my career when I was working late nights and early mornings, trying to beat the clock as a professional photographer and full time mom, my motto was “I’ll sleep when I die” & I pushed myself to the ends of my limit. See I was a photographer and visual artist from 2000 and when 2014 rolled out, I received the “Best Black Canadian Photographer Award” and I felt extremely accomplished as professional and also as business owner who worked day and night to be better professionally. I had a 4month baby, my 4th and in months leading to accepting the award, I was almost in need of a blood transfusion, my health was a mess, my blood pressure was high and my blood count very low. I looked great accepting the award but I was beyond burnt out not just because I was a new mom for the 4time again but most because I worked myself to the ends of my core.
I was frustrated with my wellness and started to see how trumping my professional career ahead of my health was the worst choice I made for myself up to date. I evaluated my entire life, my dreams, my passions and my purpose and it all brought me back to myself and the question I constantly asked myself “How can you serve well if you are not well”? I put this questions into every area on my life and the answer was always the same…..You can’t.
This was the moment I changed the direction of my entire life.
Coach , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As I began to embrace my changing body after motherhood & I began to challenge myself to be well in all areas of my life. I started to get serious about my workouts, heading to the gym 5 days a week also strengthen my mind and my thought patterns. I began to drink more water and invite clarity to take the wheel in my mindset shift. I also began to practice detoxing my life from toxic people, from negative thoughts, and also from my attachment to relive unhealthy patterns.
I healed and started sharing my journey with others, encouraging them to take the challenge to a well life as well. I began to study the brain and understand why our thoughts have power and how to take my power back. I spent time understanding the difference between mindfulness and meditation. I spent more time by myself, rediscovering my weaknesses, my darkness and also my strengths.
I became certified as a Life Coach in 2015 and built on my passion for wellness adding “Mindfulness Practitioner” & “Wellness Coach to my belt in 2020 in the peak of the pandemic. I have coached women and men virtually and in person through workshops and mastermind sessions I’ve hosted to educate entrepreneurs and the average person how to process being extraordinary in their pursuit for wellness. I founded “The Conscious Warriors” shortly after and introduced my audienced to Self Care and Self Love products and services that propel us all to reach heights of our own wellness so we can serve and love the people in our circles from a healthy place.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I truly believe a lot of who we are is tied into our purpose and also tied into our exposure to understand that the path set for our success includes a change in direction sometimes. When I started my business in 2000, I had no idea on what scale of impact I would be called to. I captured people’s stories and shared them visually but the time came for me to tell my own story and heal through the bleeding.
There is a moment we all face, when we decide to either tolerate our life the way it is or evolve into the growth of living outside the comfort zone. If I didn’t come into the realization of my bad habits and how it was affecting my health, I would have never embraced the Wellness journey which led me back to myself.
“When you know your worth, you’ll protect it and my wellness carries my worth”.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn toxic mentalities of unhealthy work ethic. I had to unlearn my definition of what it looks like to be number in my industry. I have no intention to be the best anymore, I do strive to be better than the woman I AM each day.
Unlearn Shame and Learn Transparency
Unlearn Blame and Learn Self Awareness
Unlearn Self sabotage and Learn Self Respect
Your VALUE is your Power!! It’s already inside you.
