Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christopher Roblész. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Christopher, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Math N’ more was founded in June 2020 during the peak of the pandemic to ensure scholars of all ages received adequate math education. I taught from 2009-2019, starting as a math intervention at one of the largest charter management organizations in NYC to becoming an Assistant Principal in a charter network in Atlanta Public School then becoming a Special Education District Leader for a NYC Charter School 2020-2021.
My passion for education and ensuring youth, especially disadvantaged young people have a quality education to live a life of prosperity is unwavering.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Math N’ More is an educational tutoring center focused on supporting the most disadvantaged students. What really sets us apart is the individualized support that the instructors give to each and every scholar. Other math tutoring centers do not offer wraparound services in addition to tutoring. At other agencies, It’s all drill and practice and test preparation. At Math N’ More we truly aim to support the scholars’ long-term goals as well as their short-term goals of passing classes every semester. Our goal at Math N’ More is not only to ensure the completion of their educational journey but to support them and whatever their life choice is after completing their educational career.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ll be honest and share this story; I was working for one of the “top” charter school networks in the country where I served as a middle school administrator for the 2019-2020 school year. I moved my entire life from Miami, Florida to Atlanta, Georgia to work for the school system. I had a fantastic principal who has gone on to be a superintendent in Chicago. I should have gone with her truth be told, but I didn’t. I thought my work here in Atlanta was incomplete.
I stayed at the school in the hopes that I would be able to build my career as a school administrator, and one day open my own school. I had the greatest team ever, we turned around a department that needed so much work, was in complete shambles, out of compliance, and students were not excelling academically. Despite it all, TOGETHER we persevered, student achievement increased, staff morale was at an all-time high and leaders were developed under my leadership.
However, that was not enough, despite turning around a department that was on a decline, supporting students as the top priority and developing leaders, jealousy from other leaders took precedence, and my tenure as school administrator came to an end. I was asked to leave not because of performance, but because egos became bigger and priority over the community and students that we were serving.
While I was hurt and devastated by the termination, it was, then that I understood that my purpose was bigger and that Math N’ More was to be birthed to become a program to support students and the community. Math N’ More’s only goal is to ensure equitable access to math education and to develop leaders in a technological 21st-century growing world.
God was the source of my strength through this time and He alone provided me with the vision to support the Metro Atlanta Area & all those with Wi-Fi through Pi Day, Math interventionist, college advising and soon community programming.
Any advice for managing a team?
This advice is going to be simple, ALWAYS put people first. No matter how big Math N’ More gets the team at Math N’ More and the clients will always come first. Math N’ More would not be able to run without the people who put effortless time and energy into its vision. Especially, in the beginning stages where we currently are. There are several people behind the scenes supporting my vision for little or nothing in return and for that, I am ever grateful.
