We were lucky to catch up with Christine Orvetz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
In 2018, my boyfriend, Gus, and I were visiting Philadelphia when we decided we wanted to start a fun creative venture together to enjoy outside of our regular 9-5 jobs. We are both huge coffee and travel lovers and while visiting a local coffee shop in Philly, we thought why not document our experiences traveling to different coffee shops. We love travel shows and visiting new places so we thought this would be the perfect endeavor. Gus has a background in photography and I’ve always enjoyed writing so together we created the Calling All Coffee instagram account. We use the account to post pictures of local coffee shops, as well as the surrounding areas, and write about our experiences. Our goal is to promote and shine a positive light on local small businesses and communities.

Christine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Both of us work in marketing. Gus has a background in social media, graphic design, and photography while my background is in project management. We try to use our experiences to help promote local coffee shops and communities during our travels by posting on our Calling All Coffee Instagram account. Enjoying a good cup of coffee, as simple as that is, is something that we look forward to on every trip. Being able to share our experiences, travels, and pictures with people all over brings us a lot of joy. To date, we’ve visited and posted about more than 200 coffee shops/restaurants and have visited over 60 cities in and outside of the US.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our goal is to promote local small businesses through our travels and to have fun while doing it. Life can get hectic at times and we like to remind ourselves to enjoy the little things. A cup of coffee in the morning or traveling to a new city brings us happiness and we want to share that with others. Running Calling All Coffee is a fun way for us to explore our creativity, drink lots of coffee, and connect with others.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We try to have fun with social media. We typically follow a similar format with our posts to remain consistent, but like to switch it up at times. For example, we’ve been also making short videos and experimenting with reels. We try to always provide a little background about the coffee shop or city we’re posting about. Our hope is that someone will open up their Instagram, see our post, and learn something new! While we don’t have a large following at this time, we found that engaging with other coffee lovers and food/drink bloggers has helped the most with building our audience. Our biggest advice is to be authentic and have fun with it.
