We recently connected with Christina Wen and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Some of the most meaning projects I have been a part of in the past little while are documentary film ‘The Spellers’ and Searchlight feature film ‘Chevalier’. ‘The Spellers’ is a documentary film that discuss the Spelling method as a way of communication for kids living with autism as non-speakers. The film introduces several spellers and their parents’/families’ journey. I got to mix the music for this very powerful and touching documentary.
‘Chevalier’ is a searchlight feature film that unveil the story of Joseph Bologne, the French revolutionary composer and champion fencer. As a POC composer, Joseph had deeply influenced and left a legacy for music and art. He also served and led in the French Revolution. I work on as a member of the sound team for ‘Chevalier’ and I am really grateful to get to be a part of the storytelling process for the film about this historical figure.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Chinese re-recording mixer, mix technician and sound editor for film and television. I pursued a degree in audio engineering and film composition at Berklee College of Music and have been working in audio post production as soon as I graduated. I feel passionate about films especially for the storytelling process. Through most of the projects I have worked on, I uncover knowledge about people and life that I haven’t known before. Getting to be a part of the creative process in the entertainment industry and learn about things I don’t know are my favorite parts about my job. I grew up in China and have lived different cultures. From that I find myself bringing the qualities from my culture that I love to share with creative talents in the sound industry. And because of my background, I tend to be very detail oriented and organized.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to eventually own my own sound company that has teams of sound talents to provide audio post production services films and television.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think taking the time to learn and work hard under mentorships of other professionals who have been in the industry for decades is the best decision I have made in my career. Through each project I get to meet different people in the industry, and by being detail oriented and doing the best job I can, I have built many good relationships as well as a good reputation for myself.
