We recently connected with Christie Smirl and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Over the course of your career, have you seen or experienced your field completely flip-flop or change course on something?
Traditional Western Medicine was my dharmic and career path for over 30 years. When I was a tiny child, I knew that I wanted to go into a healing profession. At age 15, I got a weekend hospice job caring for a terminally ill woman with cancer, then at age 19, I started working at St. Bernardine’s Hospital. First, I was just a nurse’s aide (CNA), then I graduated from CSUSB as a nurse (RN). Soon, I returned to Loma Linda University and graduated as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Master of Science. I remained at the same hospital till late 2019. Exhausted mentally, physically and spiritually, I took a 3-month sabbatical to pursue personal spiritual practices. During that time, COVID spread insidiously through the political and medical systems exposing corrupt practices worldwide. Would I go back into the trenches of the Urgent Care, Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit? No. I chose to make a complete professional U-Turn, never to return to conventional mainstream medicine. Instead, I pursued deep esoteric spiritual studies, sacred art, devotional music and writing.
Sometimes a person is just done, done with a specific profession or industry. As one chapter of life closes, a whole new phase of life begins. That is where I am now, in a fresh new world where I can heal people multidimensionally and express my life path artistically, musically and mystically – unbound by the confines of hospital walls, corporate red-tape and political agendas.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As the owner and operator of Healthier Vibrations, my main focus is to cultivate wellness through traditional Ayurveda and Yoga. I offer year-round educational programs that focus on restoring health through Ayurvedic medicine, spiritual services and Yoga. My style of teaching encourages people to take control of their own physical and emotional wellbeing in order to become a more complete human while striving for Self-Realization. The most popular service that I offer is a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification called the Ayurveda Yoga Awakening Program. In just a few months, students revolutionize their lives and then go on to help others.
As a Reiki Master, I treat clients and certify others how to perform conscious healing techniques. In addition, I perform sound based meditations and metaphysical alignments utilizing gongs, singing bowls, mantras, tantric and shamanic methods to individuals and groups.
After leaving acute care hospital work, I also wrote and published several books. The book titled ‘Chakra Alignment: A Transformational Guide and Journal to Reclaim Control over your Chakras and Life’, is by far a favorite of my students. It succinctly teaches what ancient scholars and physicians have always known about the human subtle energy system. The Chakra Alignment book is full of traditional knowledge, illustrations and ritual practices that help the reader achieve deep, long-lasting positive transformations. The second and third books that I wrote are children’s stories titled ‘Cringy Cat’ and ‘Brian’s Unfortunate Brainstorm’. These books focus on the practical application of Ayurveda and emotional regulation through fun, brightly illustrated kid’s stories.
Part of my mission and service is to inspire and guide others by sharing my gnosis of the divine. Much of this work involves poetry, sacred artwork and devotional music. Hundreds of my art images and poems have been published in ‘Mother Gnosis’, ‘The Dashamahavidya Gita’, ‘Alchemical Yogini’ and ‘Kali Samadhi MMXX’. Musically, I have written, released and/or been featured on nearly a dozen devotional albums as Christie Smirl, under the moniker Kali Samadhi, Akashavani and The Kali Dub Project. It was also my greatest honor to perform for saints and sadhus in India.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Discipline and inspiration.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Absolutely. Three decades of service in an acute care hospital revealed the depths of human suffering and resiliency. It taught me what is most important in life, at least what is most important in my own life. All of my scientific training allowed me to understand the physics and biochemical processes involved in the ancient sciences of Ayurveda, yoga and spirituality. They are all intertwined. My life goal of healing has not changed really, it has just morphed through deeper personal and professional layers. My moto has always been ” Heal yourself. Help heal another. Begin healing the world.”.
