We recently connected with Chris Ewing and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I like to joke that I started my website and brand design business by accident. In early 2020, at the peak of the Covid-19 lockdown, I created a few brands and websites for local wedding vendors that were friends of mine. My very first client was a Make Up Artist & I did a happy dance in my living room when I got my very first paid invoice!
Before I knew it, I had more and more creatives asking for my assistance, and I quickly developed a waitlist of amazing clients. By the end of lockdown, I was a full-time designer & “Ivory & Green” went from the name of my blog to the name of my business.

Chris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Ivory & Green Creative House specialize in creating brands, websites, & high quality copywriting for wedding vendors & creative entrepreneurs.
The intimate team at Ivory & Green understands that every business is beautifully different, and, therefore, every brand and website we bring to life is too!
Every little detail of a business’s visual identity is thoughtfully crafted to tell its story, attract its ideal clients, and, ultimately, help its business grow to the next level.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I found my business partner, Shae, because my brother bought a chair from her on Facebook marketplace. No, really, that’s how we met! I still find it baffling how our paths crossed so unexpectedly. I was not even looking for an employee or business partner at the time. However, when you meet someone that gets your business vision, that can dream even bigger for you than you can for yourself, & can fill a gap you didn’t even know you had, then you just have to bring them on!

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
YES, I am a huge reader & I am always finding inspiration in books, whether it be fiction or non-fiction! “Creative Strategy and The Business of Design” by Douglas Davis is one of the most impactful non-fiction reads that my design team has read together. It’s full of practical applications for design businesses of all sizes!
From a fiction perspective, “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow” by Gabrielle Zevin was a delightful read about a video game start-up that really touched my creative heart. Zevin encapsulated the beauty of the creative process & collaborating with others.
