Cheryl, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As I mentioned, my professional life began as a public school teacher. Teaching was deeply fulfilling for me, and looking back now I can see that it also prepared me for the work I do today. Teaching helped me learn how to communicate ideas clearly, guide people through new concepts, and create a space where learning and discovery can happen.
Even while I was teaching, there was another part of my life quietly present: my intuition. When I was very young, I would see spirit faces and sense things beyond the physical world. As a child, those experiences felt natural, but as I grew older I began to push them aside because I didn’t understand them. Still, that intuitive awareness never left me.
Everything changed around the age of forty-five. Within a short time, several family members passed away, and after their passing I experienced very clear visitations from them. These experiences were unmistakable to me. I knew deeply that what I was witnessing was not imagination: it was connection. That realization opened the door to a much deeper understanding of the spirit world and my relationship with it.
From that point forward, I began intentionally developing that connection. I spent time in quiet meditation learning how to listen and receive messages. I kept journals documenting each experience: the date, the spirit who came forward, the messages shared, and who those messages were meant for. Sometimes the communication felt like it came from a specific spirit from the Other Side, and other times from a broader collective light. When I didn’t understand something, I simply asked. Over time, that relationship with Spirit grew stronger and clearer.
I slowly began sharing messages with friends and family who were open to it. Some people embraced it, while others didn’t understand this new direction in my life. That too was part of the journey. Despite those challenges, I felt strongly that I was meant to continue walking this path.
Around that time, Spirit guided me to create a presentation explaining many of the spiritual concepts I had been learning. I worked closely with that guidance, building a presentation that described the journey of the soul and how Spirit communicates with us. A friend later invited me to present it at a gathering, which became my very first public talk. Because of my background in teaching, presenting and explaining these ideas came naturally to me.
Not long after, I began offering professional readings. My first space was actually a small room I rented in the salon where I had my hair cut. People began hearing about the work through word of mouth, and the readings steadily grew. During sessions, Spirit would often share what I call the “Spirit 101” concepts — insights about our soul’s path, our purpose here, and the guidance that surrounds us.
Over time the work expanded into events, workshops, and eventually my podcast, If It’s Light, It’s Right™, where I share spiritual teachings and intuitive insights to help people reconnect with their inner guidance.
The culmination of many years of learning and teaching eventually became my book, A Spirit’s Journey. The book explores what I had been teaching for years — that our souls journey from the spirit world, make choices before entering this life, grow through the human experience, and ultimately return home again.
At the heart of my work is a simple intention: to help people remember that they are not alone and that they possess their own intuitive connection to Spirit.
My greatest joy is watching someone begin to trust that connection within themselves. When that happens, it often brings a sense of peace and clarity that changes how they see their life.
What I want people to know most about my work is that spirituality does not need to feel complicated or distant. It is something very personal and very close to us. Often, the guidance we are seeking is already within us — we simply need to learn how to listen.
And that is the work I feel honored to do.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the most important lessons I had to unlearn was my relationship with fear. Early in my journey, especially as I began sharing my intuitive and spiritual experiences publicly, fear appeared in many forms: fear of being misunderstood and fear of judgment.
What I eventually realized is that pretending fear does not make it disappear. In fact, ignoring it can sometimes give it more power. The real shift came when I began to name it. When fear surfaced, I learned to acknowledge it, understand what it was showing me, and then continue walking forward anyway.
Consciously choosing light over fear became my anthem and one I return to often.
Through my experiences with Spirit, I’ve come to understand something simple yet powerful: light is always stronger than fear. Fear may appear, but it does not have to determine our direction. Each time it arises, we have a choice — to return to the light and align again with what feels true in our hearts.
Another layer of this lesson was letting go of judgment, both toward myself and toward others. Every person is on their own journey. Sometimes people make choices we don’t understand, or find themselves in circumstances that appear difficult from the outside. Yet each soul may be exactly where it intended to be for its own growth and experience. Even opening to spirituality is a personal choice and should never be forced or judged.
Learning to honor that has been an important part of my path. Rather than judging another’s journey, I try to approach life with grace and understanding, remembering that we are all navigating this human experience the best we can.
In many ways, we are perfectly imperfect travelers learning as we go.
That perspective is woven deeply into my book, A Spirit’s Journey, which explores the larger journey of the soul.
In the end, the lesson I had to unlearn was believing that fear or judgment should guide our path. Instead, I continue choosing, again and again, to walk toward the light.
And as I often remind others, if it feels light, it’s right.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Early in my mediumship journey, when I was already aware that I was communicating with Spirit but still learning how to navigate that responsibility, I had an experience that tested my resilience in a profound way.
I received a message from a loved one in Spirit for a family member who was still living. As I always do, I wrote the message carefully in my journal exactly as it was given — documenting the details, the date, and the message itself. I was guided to reach out to the daughter of the loved one in Spirit, letting her know I had received a message and offering to send it by mail if she wished to read it.
The message was not received in the way it was intended.
Shortly after, I received a phone call filled with anger and harsh words. She was deeply upset and told me very firmly never to contact her again. Hearing those words was painful. I had delivered the message with sincerity, care, and light, yet it caused distress rather than comfort.
For a moment, I felt shaken and disheartened. Anyone who works in spiritual service eventually encounters moments like this — when a message given with love is received through a lens of pain or misunderstanding.
After sitting quietly with the experience, I returned to Spirit in reflection. The loved one who had asked me to deliver the message came forward again and said something that has stayed with me ever since:
“Thank you. It was delivered exactly as it was intended.”
That moment taught me something essential. My role is not to control how a message is received or interpreted. My responsibility is simply to deliver what I am given with honesty and integrity.
Around that time I also received guidance that I still carry with me today:
“Deliver the messages you receive and walk forward without looking back.”
In Spirit, doubt does not exist. But when we return to our human perspective, ego and doubt can quickly begin weaving their stories. That experience taught me not to allow fear or misunderstanding to silence the work I was being asked to do.
Looking back now, I see that moment as an early test of resilience. I could have stepped away from mediumship entirely. Instead, I chose to trust the guidance I was receiving and continue forward.
Years later, many of those spiritual teachings became the foundation of my book, A Spirit’s Journey, which explores the deeper journey of the soul.
And through every step of that journey, I return to the simple reminder that continues to guide my life and work:
If it feels light, it’s right.
