We recently connected with Cherrie McRae and have shared our conversation below.
Cherrie , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful story I’ve worked throughout my artistic lifespan, in all transparency, has been two short film projects my son independently wrote a few years ago. I was beyond proud of his creative drive & initiative. As Momager, I immediately went into work-mode acting as both Producer/Director, he as Co-Director. I was thrilled as I stood witness to him thrust himself into the world of filmmaking. Of course there are a plethora of other notable mentions and big screen projects I’ve been apart of, but the most meaningful!? My young cub!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello Rebel Readers. Thank you in advance for both your interest and read-through of my creative journey. It has been the longest steadily unstable yet incredibly rewarding ride! My very first dip in the performative pond dates back to my College era. I recall registering for a Theatre Appreciation elective against my will (I was a Business Major) because all the other elective courses had filled. I figured, if I was going to graduate on time, my hands were tied. Little did I know this was the flicker that would ignite a massive flame.
A few years later, I was cast in an urban drama series (the title slips my mind) on a low budget cable channel. Although NOT a trained actor at the time, the remnants from my college experience gave me the confidence to at least give it a try…
…20+ years, 2 Unions and 70 screen credits later, here I am!
My most recent artistic endeavors (2025) have been working with two separate Theatre Company’s, 1-Off Broadway and 1-Off/Off Broadway Performances in New York City.
Lastly, I am also Owner | Operator of Written Write Pictures, LLC my very own production company and creative venture where I find great passion in Storytelling as well as outsourcing production needs. Currently a year 1 student at NYUs Screenwriters Program and a proud member of the Alliance of Women Directors.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I normally keep my visions, mission, manifestos, purposed pivots private. But in recent years garnered a change of heart in exchange for accountability.
In this season, I’ve found speaking goals audibly to be advantageous, serving as an accountability element. Friends, Family, Mentors, Circle and Supporters can help me uphold the vision, live up to the vision, live out the vision. They have and continue to.
With that said, your readers get an exclusive treat. My (open-ended) professional goal, is to obtain an EGOT. And for those unfamiliar with what getting an EGOT even means. It’s being voted and granted with the esteemed titles: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony Award Winner.
I know, I know…a doozy, BUT, I have a strong unconventional belief system that I can accomplish WHATEVER God allows me to grab hold of, and I’m clenching tight to this promise. I’m absolutely sold on the fact that I will encounter a mounds of obstacles, hurdles, setbacks and rip currents but I am adamant about rising to THIS occasion. It is very much an attainable goal that ignites with God 1st, my mind 2nd and an ironclad work ethic third.
One has to SEE it…before you See it!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Engineering my Social Media presence throughout the years remains a virtual Rubik’s cube! The first couple of years I operated as a free-for-all, just simply having fun with it. Fast forward, I’ve slowly transitioned to a Business/Public Figure configuration. My goal was and is to remain intentional about (organic) growth. And that tactic has lead to my monetization, without even trying. I attribute majority of my growth spurt to various project promo and marketing campaigns, news, radio and digital imprints, fans who follow my work and followers of like & life-minds. All in all, I can admit I still enjoy online interactions via social media. In many cases, I’ve been blessed to avoid the traps of negativity, scams and time-overindulgence, lol. Social Media has helped bridge communication between friends, peers and colleagues to childhood bonds and family members scattered both near and far.
