We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chelsea Sellars-Wilson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chelsea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful, I think it takes vision, persistence, discipline, & a high level of focus. You must first know what it is you truly desire. You must envision what you want so that you can move towards it. If you’re having a hard time figuring out what you desire or want, start with this in mind, think about something big enough that excites you, but small enough where you still believe that you could truly achieve it. Secondly. you must develop faith. See, hear, & speak your desire(s) daily as often as you can. When you have a high level of faith, you will naturally persist towards your desire regardless of your current circumstance. Furthermore, your willingness to learn & accept change will increase discipline. Those who are truly disciplined have normalized that discipline requires sacrifice of what’s “comfortable” to them. Break old habits and create beneficial routines. Discipline takes commitment. All in all, when you are deliberately making an effort to attain your desire, you are successful. Earl Nightingale has said numerous times, “Success takes doing deliberately a pre-determined job b/c that’s what one decided to do, deliberately.”

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a serial entrepreneur born and raised in Reidsville, North Carolina. I began my entrepreneurial journey at the age of 21. However, I started studying entrepreneurship at the age of 15 as I watched my mother run one of the top Behavioral Health Homes in the city. During my sophomore year, attending Rockingham Early College High School, I discovered my gift for speaking when I was asked to speak at my former middle school, Bethany Charter School. To enhance my speaking skills, I enrolled in my first public speaking course; from there, my voice led me to be a part of numerous organizations where I upheld leadership roles.
Through high school, I knew I was different from my peers, but I was afraid to embrace it. Peer pressure took a toll on me, and I started making a lot of careless mistakes. I had gotten involved with the wrong crowd & got distracted by my reputation, losing sight of my character. Reputation is who they think you are, character is who you really are. I realized that I needed a change. When I graduated high school in 2014, I joined the U.S Air Force to isolate myself out of my comfort zone. From the information learned during my training, books I read, healthy habits I started to live by, & mentors I began to follow/listen to, I decided that I wanted to share experience, lessons learned, and my message with the world. That’s when I got the idea to form a business that allowed me to speak on different stages, telling my story, sharing my message & changing the lives of all who I encountered. I hired my first coach/mentor that guided me on how to create income for my business by offering services for people who needed them. I am extremely passionate about topics like the power of vision boards, mental resiliency, the science of effective communication, spiritual success principles, & similar others.

I believe that individuals weren’t made to compete, they were made to create. Create abundance. My ultimate dream is to be one of the top female-Veteran serial entrepreneurs who launched an academy specializing in elite principles for coaches, entrepreneurs, business owners, & individuals looking for time freedom.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I have a fancy or deep story on how I put together the initial capital I needed to start my business. I simply put myself on a budget plan, lived below my means, & divided my money up smartly. In other words, I got it out the mud. At that time, I wasn’t informed on how to leverage credit to create more capital so I used what I had to get me what I envisioned. Schedule a call with me to go over my “What to Do w/ a Dollar” Budget Plan. If I can do it, you can too!

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Two books that have significantly impacted my entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy are “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki and “Think & Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. I have read both books at least 3 times. If I show you a copy of each of those books, it looks like a textbook or a workbook inside. *HaHa* I truly believe in reading to study so that you can understand and grasp the information being provided. Both books contain major principles that are beneficial to anyone who reads. If you are looking for an answer or a secret, open a book. These two are a strong start. For those who are reading this, I challenge you to read at least one of them (this goes for if you have read it before, too), and send me a direct message when you are done. I have a gift for you:)
