Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Charlicia Harper. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Charlicia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that it takes a significant amount of perseverance and faith to become successful. The will to keep going through adversity and challenges, and the faith to believe that even in the storms the sun is on its way out. No one has become successful without taking risk, as you are only rewarded after the initial risk.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Charlicia Harper, and I am 30 years old. Previously, I was a Division 1 Collegiate athlete at the University of Kansas, in which I played basketball. Now, I own a catering business called NOURISH, work as a career counselor with 16-24 year old at-risk youth, author (Never been Enough, Sis, Claim Yours), and pursuing an extensive career as a professional scrum master. As I continue to grow professionally, my attention to detail in my business NOURISH is very important to me. Ultimately, becoming my own boss is the goal, and opening a restaurant/lounge in the DFW area.
I truly strive to explore all of the gifts the Lord has provided me, and walk in my purpose. The things which I do that help others, cater to others, and guides others is very important to me. I’m proud of the work that I do, because in all ways it serves someone else. If I’m not assisting someone with educational needs, home life advise, financial assistance etc… then I’m nourishing their bodies with food, and or offering the assistance to bring their teams and groups together. Helping individuals enhance their emotional intelligence, professional development, and interpersonal skills to better do their jobs.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been word of mouth, and building relationships. Most often, I have done events for one customer, and someone from their event contacted me after. I’m very big on ensuring customers are comfortable, heard, and feel cared for. I’m going to go above and beyond for everyone that seeks my services, and ensure by the time I leave the room their either positively speaking on me to someone new, and or providing someone with my contact information.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe what helped me build my reputation in the market is my family and friends. I have an amazing support system and they have always shared, liked, and most importantly, used my services. I was able to practice and use them as tests before I actually went out into the world offering my services. They gave me the opportunity to mess up privately, without having to be embarrassed publicly. Therefore, as I took pictures and videos of “events” I did for them; I was able to publicly display the services for promotion.
