We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chantz Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Chantz thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Well for me an idea means nothing without execution. I’m an artist so I was in a transition period of do I still wanna make music vs I really like doing this clothing stuff. The fun I have coming with ideas for designs, content, picking the models, and actually making it happens is what gives me a rush. I thrive off of coming with an idea and making it happen.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Chantz. I’m just very creative Mind I can’t limit myself to just a “clothing brand owner”. I’ve been making music since I was 11, my dad made music/designed clothes & my grandfather was a DJ. My lineage of art, fashion & black culture separates me from other brand owner cause I didn’t get into this space for clout or money I have genuine love & passion for creating. I’m most proud of never quitting on myself when things got tough and always being in my vision, it makes me feel alive to keep going no matter what!

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
Well I started this brand while I was unemployed so I had nothing but time to brainstorm different ways to fund the brand. I actually use to thrift & dye clothes for extra money and my friend told me I should try selling at a vendor marketplace and that changed everything for me. Once I got a job I was able to use the earnings from my pop-ups to reinvest into the brand & build my website up.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn trying to do everything myself. I think every creative goes through that realization of understanding you can’t win the war on your own. Once the brand started growing my responsibilities grew & so did the stress. I had no choice but to get out of my own way and seek the help I needed to continue to scale.
