Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chanti Miller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Chanti thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The biggest risk I’ve taken is leaving the corporate world and venturing into entrepreneurship. I had always been raised to go after what I want as long as it fell within certain guidelines to make sure that there was a safety net to catch me. Creating a professional world where I could bring my vision to life and make my own rules never seemed like a possibility and I was in denial for a long time that I even had the entrepreneurial spirit. It wasn’t until I met my current business partner, Dave, that I understood what it meant to to have this spirit and he was the first person that told me that I was an entrepreneur at heart. The work we did in our previous company is what gave me the confidence to branch out and start creating a path for myself and not work for others with the hope that they would create my desired future for me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Chanti Miller, Co-Founder and COO of Mosaic Venue. Mosaic is a venue located in downtown Minneapolis that operates on an open-vendor model. We are a mission-oriented business that has created a space that allows clients to celebrate themselves in the most authentic way. The Mosaic team understands that in many upscale venues, diverse clients are often forced to make compromises during their planning process, especially in regards to food. By allowing any licensed and insured caterer to work in our space, we have opened the doors of opportunity to our clients to display what makes them truly unique.
With over a decade of retail management and operations experience, I am able to create a top notch client journey that displays that each client is special to us and executing their event at the highest level is our top priority.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I first met Dave in the summer of 2020. I had been working in my most recent retail management role during that time and it was quickly becoming an environment that provided ultimate protection at the height of COVID. I had decided that after working in retail for over 13 years that I wanted to find path for myself in a different industry and had begun applying for jobs. I received a voicemail from Dave one day while I was at work basically telling me that I was overqualified for the role I was applying for and that he wasn’t sure I would be the best fit for the job. At first I was appreciative of the call but there was something in his tone that made me become irritated that he wasn’t willing to at least have a conversation with him before rejecting me for being overqualified. I called him back to set up a zoom call and after a marathon of interviews I was hired in to that company. I joke all of the time that our partnership started with him being combative and pushing me to be competitive and prove that I am the best for any role and have to always win! Through working with him I met Phuong a couple of months later and the rest is history!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
As a team, we have made ourselves the faces of the brand. The story behind how the idea for Mosaic came to be is rooted in all of our stories and is extremely personal to us so we want to make sure that the brand is an accurate representation of who we are as individuals as well as a team. Many comparable businesses in our industry don’t put the ownership team out front to represent the brand but this was so important to us in order for our audience to understand who we are and also show that we are willing to take accountability for everything that happens within the business. We aren’t afraid to be ourselves on social media and it isn’t always glamorous but it’s who we are and I think that has really allowed our audience to connect with us in a genuine way. We could have created a very floral and whimsical social media presence like so many venues do but we chose to have our pages be as eclectic as our clientele to show that we love celebrating uniqueness.
