We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chandisia Stephens . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chandisia below.
Chandisia, appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
Permanent. I hope and pray my legacy is permanent and fruitful for everyone connected to me. My social media handle Thee Conglomerate was not created by chance, but by design. By definition a conglomerate is a combination of multiple business entities operating in entirely different industries under one corporate group. I seek to further create, sustain and multiply the fruits of my labor as I operate my current businesses and launch new ventures. I’m doing great things and I will continue to do great things in home decor, fashion, NFT & crypto, real estate, beauty and philanthropy. When I leave this earth and it is asked “what did she do?”…the response should be EVERYTHING…and she did it well.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a creative. Anything artistic in nature where I have creative control or at the very least can have my hand in it, I’m at attention. Creating Chemistry by Chan, my Dallas based candle company was initially for therapeutic purposes but soon became a full on luxury scent company. I took pride choosing luxury supplies for my craft and it showed. Then I profited. It’s truly a joy to be passionate about a thing and make money doing it as well. Kinda like being paid to be happy and at peace. Which brings me to my first love and passion. Fashion. I have always taken pride in my appearance and was known in high school for classy high end looks at the age of 15. In my growth as a woman I coupled my now values with my love for fashion and created The Trophy Wife Collection. This release has had its challenges and totally disputes the idea that your projects don’t have to be perfect but passable. My clothing brand? I think not. I have fawned over every intimate detail and the launch will well worth it. While I love to create, I love helping others create and pin point their passions. Thus, the start of De La Creme Consulting. Yes, I find time to freelance consult other business owners on the world of entrepreneurship. This company was actually born from a business program in my non profit Mom Versus World which I created to help moms over some of the humps I endured as a mom of four boys. I also write movie scripts, make my own whiskey, and swim like a dolphin but I’m most proud of my ability to get things done rain, sleet or snow.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Forgiving myself for being human. In our current microwave society views are skewed and people expect to see immediate perfection. This idea causes us to be extremely critical of ourselves. Beauty now! Money now! Success now! Sounds good, but the reality is, there is no such thing as perfect or “quick success.” We are, via social media, allotted the highlight reel into the lives of others and by this judge our own entire life story. The smallest mistake we make is magnified because we don’t “measure up.” To what? To whom? The sooner we accept that we are human and as such, all have different paths and times to shine, the road traveled to our own success will feel like the perfect fit.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
Starting my luxury candle company took more research than I initially banked on. Kid you not, I received my first lesson from a 15 minute YouTube video. Mistake. After watching the video I thought all I needed was $500 and patience. Maybe for a hobby. The process of creating candles soothed me and was my time to create something beautiful uninterrupted. Once it turned from hobby to luxury decor, things got pricey. From vessel selection, high end wax blends and potent luxury scents, vendors were gladly taking all my coins. I was so passionate about it, especially after reviews from people who lived in luxury, the cost of inventory, storage and marketing (the way I dreamed of marketing my candles) completely escaped me. I spent a many late hours sourcing manufacturers for vessels I would actually end up not even choosing. The indecisiveness of it all. You want to choose the right quality product for a “reasonable” price because your price point has to be considered and profit is the goal. After trial and error with beautifully priced low quality waxes and over priced bulk negotiations I finally found my suppliers and exceeded my own expectations of launching a luxury candle company.
