We were lucky to catch up with Chad Price recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chad, thanks for joining us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
I do not think I do anything revolutionary with my morning. I typically wake up around 7:00-7:30am, have green tea, and check emails. Then I try to get a workout in prior to meetings, but sometimes I might have to squeeze my workout in after my first call or meeting.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a seasoned entrepreneur that has started and built multiple businesses from the ground up. My most notable company, Kettlebell Kings, was on the INC 5000 4 years consecutively and after a 10 year journey, was acquired in a multimillion dollar exit at the end of 2021. I also published my debut book, Preparing for Battle: How to Overcome Life’s Challenges, Unlock Your Full Potential, and Build a Successful Business, in August 2023. In this book, I use my story and over a decade experience to help current and future business owners get mentally prepared for the hardships and overall journey of entrepreneurship. Currently, I am the CEO for Life Grows Green, a natural lifestyle company, and CEO of my consulting firm at chadprice.com. I help brands build direct to consumer operations and I specialize in using digital tools to build online communities.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
On my journey I have done everything to try and make sales and market my brands. The biggest hail marys are always the large B2B accounts. When trying to get a large gym chain or large order, I would regularly travel to the site of the company, participate in their events, support their social initiative, and any other angle to show value above just being a product vendor. My point is, if the account is large enough, there is almost nothing we would not do from a sales or marketing perspective.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivoting in business is just part of the game. In the early days of Kettlebell Kings for example, we believed we would be the ultimate kettlebell superstore. We thought at the time that we would carry every “Great” brand from around the world and focus on being the center hub for content and education, but we quickly realized that if we wanted our products to match the quality we expected, we would need to design our own equipment. This led to becoming a complete equipment supplier, and we end up not just sourcing 4 different styles of kettlebells, but becoming experts in all fitness equipment and sourcing that for B2B clients or customers. You never know everything you do not know, so having the self awareness to pivot when clear information is presented to your business is essential to move quickly with the market.
