We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Catherine Frantz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Catherine, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
That my industry is filled with that classic “nerd” image. Ya know, over weight, wears suspenders, coverd in acne and living in moms basement. That’s not it at all. I’ve meet many wonderful different characters of all shapes, sexes, and backgrounds. I’ve meet rappers, macho sports stars, metal heads, young kids and older folks who love collecting cards and its awsome to see how diverse the community is. It is pretty male dominant still though but Us females are rising up in the card industry and that’s super awsome to see too.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
GoofyCatzCardShack: Cards, Collectables, and Customizations. I’ve try and do it all.
We sell TCG products, mainly Pokemon cards and product right now because it’s what I’m most knowledgeable at.
We travel to Collectable trade shows, live stream on whatnot, and sell on multiple platforms.
We also offer 3D printing/Customizations. From printing something you found, to creating your own unique figure.
I keep saying “we” but it’s mainly me running everything as of now. I have some help here and there but they have other priorities and that’s ok. I just hope when we grow I’ll get more people to join in and help.
I wanted to turn something I enjoy into a dream career. It’s slow. It’s hard work. But it’s pretty fun.
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
Yes. We sell on whatnot, doing live auctions. It’s pretty fun. Some nights are busy and other nights are dead. All depends. Slowly growing our following so we will be more noticed like the top dog streamers. One day. We also sell on eBay,etsy, tcgplayer as well as FB and Instagram. We also use printify service for our branded merch.
We do have a website (GoofyCatzCardShack.com) but it’s still under construction. Selling and promoting on diffrent platforms can be a bit of a hassle to do all by myself. I wish voukd connect all the accounts into one. But that would make life to easy heh.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes I did. I’ve collected Pokemon cards since day one. I have drawers full of cards, binders, boxes just alot. I needed money to fix storm damage in the roof. So found out there was a card show nearby and I decided to go sell some cards. Instead. It fueled a dream. The atmosphere was awsome. I met friends. I traded cards, I sold cards, I spent hours running around and having fun. I made $200 and wound up trading more. I just had so much fun. Some friends I meet reccomend I try doing a booth at the next show. So, I did. It was a small, show but I wound up making $500 and making more friends. And I kept going back. And just started out reaching from there and trying new things. It’s fun. It’s awsome doing something you love. I used to get told all the time that collecting pokemon was a waste and pointless, well pokemon helped me keep a roof above my babies heads. And i enjoy it.But you know sometimes buisness is slow and dead cause the bigger streamers and sellers hog the limelight ya know and gets you down sometimes. But just keep going and do your best and enjoy it man. I’m still not a “top streamer/seller/artist extrodinar” and that ok. Keep working yoir way to the top, don’t get blinded by money. Love what your doing. Have passion and never surrender.
